Need some pointers - new Lancer 2008 GTS CVT

Hi all

I'm new to the forum, and this is my first real car. I've driven 2 brand new Civics (in 2000'ish) and a Nissan Sentra. These were all family sedan based cars with nothing special about them - stock stuff, AT, low powered engine, etc.

I just got my car for a week now and was looking for pointers.

1. What is the rule of thumb when driving this car initially? I have read go easy on it for the first 500km (I've kept it under 3000 RPM and under 80km/h).

2. Can I use the shifter whenever I want, or is there also a break-in period for this? Read through the CVT learning thread but it seems the thread has died.

As a side note to this, I have noticed some scuff marks on the wheel hub, where the hub meets the tire. I did rub it against the sidewalk one time but I noticed that on the other wheel, there is scruff marks like this and I did not recall ever touching anything on that side of the car. Could it be possible that ueven streets may cause this? Is this normal to happen on 18" wheels to happen? Keep in mind I've only been driving your standard type of sedans and my knowledge of cars is very n00bish

Great forum you guys have here (Y)

Sup, gummyz.
Chino here. Nice to have you.
Congrats on your purchase.
The CVT has a learning engine, it learns your typical driving habits.
With mine, I went easy on it till 500 m and then started driving it like the way I would drive any car.
After 500 I started to push it harder so that the car will pick up on this habit. To me, you will notice the changes after 1000 m.
Use the shifter anyway you want. Some people shift at 3k rpm to 4krpm. It pends on how you usually drive a manual tran.
But that's a decent start.
There are quite a few guys here knowledgeable here.
Not sure bout your tires.
Ask around through proper threads or start on under the proper category. You will get a decent response.
See on the forum.

Hey, thanks for the tips so far guys =) I guess it looks like I'm on the right track then.

yeah I'm glad I got the car when I got it since they aren't sure when they will get another GTS at the dealership (they said possibly late Oct but maybe they were just trying to push me - I'll see when I get my Aux In port).

I've only driven a MT a few times, but it was for learning really. I don't feel comfortable with driving MT on a new car, maybe on someone else's WRX :P

I had 200km put on my car tho since it was driven from Montreal to Ottawa

I've been reading up on the mods available. I'm very interested so I will definately be keeping a keen on eye it. I'm looking towards after the winter here to install a mod, or even 1.5yrs, so I'm a long ways away from it lol
