Mitsu dealer wants 500$ for...

I just thought I would go by the dealership and see how much a timing belt would cost plus install. And they told me 500$ plus tax they have a 400$ tune up service but you don't get the timing belt changed. Is there any other cheaper ways to get this done?

If it includes the tensioner , belts and two pulleys thats not a bad price. Otherwise the cheaper way is to do it yourself.

just had my belt changed and it was just under 500 for the belt. it took us from 8a - 1p to tow the car and install the belt.

I got lucky and didn't do anything to the valve stems the compression all checked out

It is not a pop a few screws, loosen the tensioner and put the new on one install. Here is the diagram.

I did my T-belt/water pump change for around $100...no new tensioner either. It did take me 11 hours straight w/o a impact gun! LOL

the parts are cheap... it's the labor that hits the pocketbook! takes a while to do and definitely need to make sure that you get the timing points correct

If you have the time (and tools) do it yourself and save some cash. If you don't have the tools, go out and buy what you need cause it will still be cheaper than the dealer.

^Yes! I forgot to mention it this time, but I usually mention how instead of going to the dealership...spend the money on tools to do the job and they'll last much longer than that car you're working on. Very good advice!

I would not use anything other than Mitsu belts and tensioner when it comes to a timing belt job. Good find on those parts and prices tho. Just my 2 cents.

I will never ever take my car to the dealership ever again. Never go to the dealership unless it free. They charge arm and a leg for labor and parts and they do a crappy job on your cars. Take it to a shop.
