Injen CAI find
I'm also new to modding my lancer, and intake is the next thing I plan to get, I always see RRM SRI on this board but rarely the injen CAI, from that link it says +10hp and +11 lbs of torque? That seems like a great gain for an intake, so basically CAI is the better one to go for vs. RRM SRI, and the only downside is the price? ($320 vs. $170 ish, so like double in price??)
But what's with the better response with the SRI? If someone can explain more in detail that'll be great, thanks!

In my general automotive experience, SRI and CAI give roughly the same gains. SRI will give a bit more power at low-RPM levels (that's what the "better response" means - more power as soon as you hit the pedal), CAI will give a bit more at high-RPM levels. But overall, you're getting about the same gains.
Just buy whatever you like best. It'll all be about the same in the end.
if you're aiming for sound SRI is a bit louder then the CAI, if you're wiling to go for the extra 100 and get the CAI more power to you. the decision is up to you
i wouldn't always put company dynos' down cause injen said 13whp i belive for my eclipse and i got 18whp on a dynodynamics. Thats y i try to give creditabilty to companys who at least release their own dynos or dyno sheets period.

See but your wrong cause its all different dyno's so their dyno and weather conditions could have been different, you have to think of these things, they are given the info they got on their dyno at their shop. So in reality they are not Underestimating their products.
Or you're wrong and your dyno vastly overestimated the number. It's a matter of perspective. I can say this though, I have to see a product that produces number close to what the vendor claims.

People make fun of Import Tuner's Power Pages section, but at least it's fair. Same dyno, same day, etc.
Where are you guys getting these numbers from? A CAI is not "ten times better", it's not like an SRI will give 1 hp and a CAI will give 10 hp. Here's something for you to think about. What happens when you stamp on the gas? Logically the engine creates a large vacuum and begins clamoring for air. What happens when that air has to travel through 4 feet of pipe to get to the motor? Lag. A SRI will generally show better throttle response than a CAI. The heat issue only becomes an issue after several hard runs and in stop and go traffic (and how much power do you really need in stop and go traffic?). When the car is moving, air is travelling through the engine bay thus making the difference minimal. There was an article posted a long time that dealt with this very issue and the numbers for a SRI where almost the same as the CAI except the CAI made a bit more power in the upper RPMs which isn't very useful anyways. As for asking for dynos, you're not going to pick up a difference on a dyno unless you start intentially trying to find one.
an oldie but a goodie. very thorough article. they took benchflow numbers, dyno numbers, temp readings, AND explained HOW they dynoed the car.
the conclusion is simple. colder air is better. in the right situation it is enough to overcome their flow deficit vs the SRI.
the question now is can the lancer in stock form take advantage of the cold air? i mean if the head is plain horrible in terms of flow, then a SRI may be the better choice because the CAI's denser intake charge may not be used advantageously if it's gonna hit major restrictions in the head.
