OEM Intake & Exhaust

I have another question looking for answer in my mind. why does the manufacturer put heavy and restrictive exhaust on the Lancer?and a restrictive intake? i really want to put an Exhaust and an intake but it just bothers me that something is not right. and thet they are for a purpose like that. and also i searched everywhere but couldnt find an answer. is the exhaust and intake bad for the car in the long run does it stress the engine? im reffering to sri cause i read that the cai can throw CEL and problems when raining or water get into the engine.

Manufacturer's put the heavy restrictions on because of beaurocatics. In order to sell stuff they have to pass laws and standards for specific countries. Even though an aftermarket intake and exaust could do a better job in both performance and emmissions, i would say that they are looking for more of a global platform solution. the more parts they can share across different platforms and different countries the more they save.

Installing either should have no damaging effects on your engine. If you happen to just take out the MAF sensor plug and start your car, the damn CEL stays lit for a while. Once you plug it back in and the computer gets around to doing whatever diagnostics it does it will clear the error. Besides, if something does go wrong, its easy enough to put the stock one back in and go use the warranty.
