I am sure there is a way to hang the exhaust lower. that way it wont be so close to the bumper thus no damaage to it. i mean yea it sucks to have to try n custom install a part designed for your car but its worth a shot and saves you the 100 bucks if u can get away with it.

Why? GReddy never fixed their exhaust for the 02-03 models (which melted the OZ bumper specifically). This will most likely NEVER change.

Longer exhaust hangers. I haven't looked too closely at the 2008 model's hangers, but if you contact Kartboy you should be able to get some longer hangers (as long as they're straight hangers and not twists).

From Direct Tuning

Marco,

After my email to you, I checked with Greddy USA to see if there has
been any issues with the Racing Ti-C for Lancer 08 that Direct Tuning
is unaware of. Greddy informed us that they have received some
complaints about the bumper being burnt. Complaints have been less
than 10% of total exhausts sold. Greddy is now checking into this
with their engineers.

Per Greddy USA, they are going to resolve any complaints they
receive. It is not official, but there might be a revised exhaust
tip they will produce and send out to all customers complaining about
this bumper problem. The revised tip will be included with new
production shipments from Japan. This exhaust tip solution is not
official and not finalized.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Another response

Dear Oscar,

Please be informed that this exhaust system is currently on hold due
to some technical issues. GReddy is working on resolving this issue
and expect to release this exhaust in 2 weeks. We can refund your
money at this time and notify you as soon as it is available so you
can re-order. Please confirm if this is acceptable for you.

Sincerely,
Bill Shew

Does the bumper melt right away? Or is it gradual? I just installed the GReddy and at first, it was touching the bumper, melting the plastic. I just spent an hour adjusting the TI-C to the point that it did not touch the bumper (maybe a 1/4" clearance from the TI-C to the bumper with the stock hangers) and took it out for a hard drive. I didn't notice the melting afterwards. I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist, though... I'll let everyone know...

keep an eye on that bumper. it will start warping little by little until it will be very noticable.

As said, it should take a little bit of time. It doesn't melt the bumper to liquid immediately, but it's definitely not going to take forever...

This is the exact reason why I got a custom axelback done for $180 including labor! No melting issues, nice tone, and no RICE! If anyone is wondering, I got custom piping with the 40 series Flowmaster muffler. The guy that did the install put a nice "U" bend in the piping just before the muffler to help with lose of back pressure!

hey guys, i also have a greddy ti-c exhaust. i dont really see my rear bumpber burning but it does turn a bit black. i have a white laner so it shows alot. however, i can whipe it off. is that the initial sign of bumper melting? or am i being ignorant.

ok.. i need some clarification on this...

Is the Greddy TiC that's for sale on many sites a cat-back or an axel-back?

the "Cat-back" in the name implies well.. cat-back. but then they all say "rear-section only". so... axel back?

I've been told both by various people... (this includes a few sites telling me it is a cat back and few saying its axelback)

if u look under your car.. u will see that their is no such thing as a catback unless u cut / weld a new piece on.. every exhaust is an AXLE back except for the Injen SES for PZEV cars
