How The Lancer Motor Works?

ok ill admit i dont know anything about n/a motors or 4 bangers at all. so this is all new to me. yesterday browsing through a edmunds mag. i couldnt help but notice that the Honda S2000s come stock with a 2.0 Liter also like the lancer..good yeah but the part that blew my mind is that the motor puts out 230hp and about 150 tq. thats with no turbo bone stock. yeah the tq isnt amazing but how does a 2.0 like our engine put out 230hp? is it because the internals are built up more? whats the big diff? and why cant we build our engine capable of doing that without a turbo?

because of bore and stroke, cylinder heads, valves, cam, does factors make the biggest diffence.

i think this can be simplified into 3 things: high flow head with VTEC lumpy cam, high compression, high revs (9000 for the F20). perfect recipe for NA power on a 4 banger

4B11 is a good engine but mitsu simply skimped out on the parts for an econocar lancer. the 4B11T however is awesome with awesome parts for an awesome car. simple stuff.

9000 RPM redline on the S2000 (guessing, something REALLY high)

7200 RPM redline on our cars.

Horsepower = torque x rpm / 5252, so if you look at a dyno and Torque and HP cross, and it doesnt happen at 5252 then the dyno wasnt done properly.

If you have a higher redline and equal torque, you have a higher HP regardless of anything else.

you have a 7200rpm redline on an 08lancer? They are 6500rpm arent they... i know mine is.

It all comes down to the tuning. If you wanted 230hp NA on your lancer you could do it too. Its just going to require alot of custom work especially in getting the perfect camshaft settup and it wont be cheap either. But still its more than possible. There are plenty of the lancers/mirages with the 4g92 mivec 1.6L engines running 200hp+ N/A. But they run agressive cams and have a super high idle making them useless as a daily driver. Wouldnt want to go much higher than a "stage 1" cam upgrade for a street car or it'll drive like **** at low speeds.

Honda S2000: two-seater sportscar
MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price)- $34,000 to $37,000

Mitsubishi Lancer: four-door economy car
MSRP - $13,990 to $17,590

--------------------

Please do not confuse a sportscar with an economy car. There's a BIG difference. The car that costs twice as much has gotten much more tuning and building to be a sporty vehicle. The cheaper car is just that - a cheaper car for economy folks.

Also, the S2000 has a 2.2 motor according to the information I'm seeing on Yahoo! Autos.

Let's also not forget that Honda did the "holy crap! this is replacing the Prelude!" song and dance before it was publilcly known.

I haven't seen the S2000 specs myself but I can tell you that mashing down the accelerator will get you noticed (although I'd like to, but I'd imagine for the price the performance would be somewhere between GTS and EVO).

Good luck for tryin'
