Timing belt issues/question
Timing belt issues/question
I've finally got around to doing a timing belt change. I wouldn't be my first t-belt change, but a first one on the '03 Lancer OZ. Everything went smoothly, or as smoothly as Mitsubishi allows you with the clearances you have. I've put everything back together and now I get a ticking sound out of my valves. Yes the car is parked and I'm not driving it. Did anyone experiance this problem? It sounds like the timing is off.
When I was taking everything apart I've noticed that the blade that sits between the spacer and crankshaft sprocket seemed to be off by about one tooth. I'm assuming that it happened when I was taking everything apart and when I put it back together, I've lined everything the way it's supposed to be. So I assume. Does anyone know how this metal blade supposed to be postioned. I'm thinking there is only one way it fits, but I could be wrong.
I'll be taking everything apart and double check everything, but if anyone has some insight or knows what the problem is, please let me know.
To clarify, I did follow the manual and I did line everything up.
Thanks,

i had the same thing happen to mine, but thats also just the engine re-aligning itself to the new belt. after a few seconds on mine it went away and ive never heard it since.
set the camshaft gear to line up with the marking on the head. It is about 11 oclock when you look at it from the passenger side. With the crank pulley removed look at the crank sprocket. Line up the marking on it with the marking at 12 oclock on the block. the rotate counter clockwise 3 teeth i think it was.
