Cool Cat Question

I have searched quite a bit on this topic but did not find a specific answer to my concern.

I have a 2005 OZ lancer, and want to get a test pipe for it. RRM does not make them for the 2004-06 lancers (because the down pipe and cat is one continuous piece, you can't unbolt the cat, you have to unbolt the down pipe with the cat).

I am refering to the second cat below the car, not the first built into the header.
Will gutting it cause any engine damage or cell's to go off?
Will I run rich?

I'm good for two years without emissions and will then just buy a high flow cat or header downpipe by then.

Any help?

Test pipe helps out a lot. I would say try looking on ebay they have header combos with downpipes for the 05. You could order that and just use the downpipe and install the header on later if you wanted.

I would suggest against a test pipe, it just adds noise and fumes, the power gains will be minimal at best.

i had a test pipe on my lancer. Only reason i had it is cos i got it for free. I don't think I'd ever pay money for one. It was fairly useless. Sounded kinda cool, made fun popping noises but other than that it didn't add any power.

I know its not going to add much power, really I'm looking for a nice tone to my exhaust. I put on a Magna flow muffler to actually hear and exhaust note and its still so quite being all bunged up with two cats.
I just want to make sure that if I gut it it won't cause damage?

Dont do it.

Gains will be minimal or close to none. Also, Do you have an exhaust? or u planning on doing this with the stocker still intact?

Hp really starts to add up when you have installed a turbo. If you add an exhaust just leave the exhaust it'll help flow out more. No headers, it will give you sound but no go. Intake will do nothing just nice little sound. If you get a test-pipe its for off road use only and i would say it helps out too certain extents and it depends on your mods. I have one and i would say it works.

don't ruin your cat, what if you'll need it in the future? Then your going to have to buy another one.

Thanks for all your responses. They are appreciated.

I have an intake and magnaflow muffler. I just want a better sound coming from the car.
I know it will not gain much, if any power.

I only want to know if I will damage the motor without the second cat (unlikely)
run rich (likely), and get better or worse gas milage (I'd think better since its less restrictive).

I can't get a test pipe from rrm because they don't make one for my car, no one else makes one (that I'm aware of), and I'm not going to buy a header and downpipe $$$$ that will also net no power.

If I want to put my own test pipe in I have to have someone weld it, yet no one will (illegal)
Only option is to gut the cat that unbolts with the down pipe. Or cut out the cat and leave the downpipe and weld in a test pipe that no one will do (illegal).

Or... buy a whole new exhaust system from header back $$$$.

I don't want my car to be loud and obnoxious, only have a little grunt, which it doesn't.

Thanks

You shouldn't run rich since the second cat isn't used to dictate AF ratio.
