need opinions please

On my 06 ES I have the RRM headers, stock down pipe, Magnaflow HF Cat, then a 2.25 inch piping back to a flowmaster 40 exhaust. Below 3000 RPMS it sounds great but at WOT or when I hit 3000/3500 rpms it sounds like a riced out Honda or a pissed off bee/weedeater. What can I do to silence it? I know some sound comes w/ the headers, etc, but is there anything I can do to get rid of this riced sound?

Also with the headers, when I am driving I can hear the exhaust flowing through the headers while im in the cab, is that normal? Is like a whooshing sound, I have never had headers before so I dont know what to expect.

are you referring to the flowing sound through the headers? A friend and I did the install and everything is tight but we used the stock manifold gasket? Could that be causing the whooshing sound through the headers in normal driving?

could it just be the sound of more air rushing through the headers? I can not identify any leaks in the system after checking each gasket, although I am going to replace the exhaust manifold gasket in a week or so. I have read that a leak at the exhaust manifold will sound like a ticking/metallic noise? I do not hear any of the such and the engine sounds very smooth. When driving it just sounds like a whooshing/air moving through the headers sound, doesnt sound like a "bad" sound

Having a header on does make it noisy.

About your ricer sound, buy a straight through resonator to filter out the high pitch tone.

That's what I did when I was NA and my car sounded great.

I took off the flowmaster 40 and had my silverline packed muffler put back on and that help considerably with the loud raspy noise although there is still some but that is expected. I will try the resonator in a week or so and see how that sounds.

i used a magnaflow resonator and welded it on after the cat, worked great for my setup.

remember the longer resonator the more it can filter the noise.

If you have an NA, small displacement motor, it will sound like that will a header (not headers) and an exhaust. The exhaust flow sound is normal.

Exhaust manifold gaskets are not really supposed to be reused. That's probably your issue. Also check the downstream flange connection. It helps to let the car idle and crawl underneath, while a friend holds a rag over your exhaust pipe end. That makes any leakage much more noticable.

any ideas on which particular magnaflow resonator? There are lots of different choices and part numbers and sizes. I would probably go with an 18" length but any ideas on part numbers? I looked at 14494

I dont think it would get ride of the noise maybe overpower/mask it.

everywhere i have read everyone talks about magnaflow mangapak resonators. I am personally going to order the 14494 next week, it is 2.25 inlet/outlet 18" resonator, and 23" overall length. Right now below 3000 rpms my car sounds great, very deep grumble, but at WOT, or above 3000/3500 rpms it sounds like a pissed off bee, so I want to eliminate that as much as possible, and the longer the resonator, the better it filters out the high tones...so ive been told, as soon as its shipped, and I have it installed I will post back with results
