Question about how to make gaskets

Whats up all? And whats up senate since im sure you'll be the one answering my post lol. I have been recently undertaking a new engine rebuild for my lancer and have a question about my gaskets before I slap this thing in. I want to make sure that Im not going to cause myself leakage problems. So when I got this new block, it was completely bare except for the pistons and crankshaft. I have since had to install all the parts from my old block, including the oil pump and pan. My question is, did I do this right? I have a tube of red rtv hi temp silicone sitting around and Ive read on some sites that it works great to make gaskets. I followed all the precautions, very very thin bead, let it sit for a half hour before putting together. Im just curious if this is going to work? Ive never used silicone for making gaskets and it kinda unnerves me. I understand the oil pump blockage risks and everything associated with this. But I want your guys input. I used this stuff on where my oil pump gasket should go and on the oil pan. When I removed them from my engine, all they had sealing them from the factory was silicone so I didnt see a major problem in using the stuff. But I want to know if the stuff I used is even going to work or if I need to run to the store and get some other stuff? I have the black rtv and the red but figured the red would be a little better since for hi temp. I want to make sure this is ok before I slap the motor in and have some issue resulting from the use of the silicone. Thanks for your input guys, I couldnt rebuild this thing with peace of mind without you all.

For the oil pump case you WILL use silicone to create the gasket. The same goes when attaching both the upper oil pan and the lower oil pan. You are also correct in wanting to use the red for the high temp reasons. You're on the right track so far.
