Question do US lancers have potential of being actually fast or good?

i have a OZ Rally Lancer, it seems like civics are better then the US lancers, maybe its just my crappy racing skills, but does anyone have tips or so and what i should do to my lancer for some first mods? thanks for your input.

What types of Civics were you racing? The Lancer has a significantly better torque curve and should provide much more low end torque than just about any stock Civic and throughout most of the powerband I believe, but with the limited amount of aftermarket parts available at this point you'd probably have a tough time keeping up with any built Civic. If you can't beat em normally, try racing em up a hill. Seriously, you should fare better.

Is the Lancer a good platform? I'd say so without a doubt. Are there enough parts for it to reach that potential at this point in time? Absolutely not. That's the way it goes when a car is only 9mos into its first MY and every competitor in its class has been around for years with at least adequate aftermarket support.

Could be. practice makes perfect. His car being auto shouldn't really make it slower really...the gear changes are a hell of a lot faster than you could ever do manually, but autos may never reach the sweetest part of their powerband. (Especially if his Civic is VTEC equipped, because it's only enabled in high revs). My advice would be to use that to your advantage. Redline before you shift if you're racing. It'll keep you in the meatiest part of your revs. Peak tq in a Lancer is around 4,250rpms. If you shift at around 6k then you should never drop (far, if at all) below peak. And uh...you're not street racing, right? Cuz that's illegal!

You still didn't say if he has an EX, DX, Si...but whatever...not so important. You won't do well against Si's anyway.

How stuff works and reading around the forums are great ways to learn the basics. Most of the good stuff is hands on though it seems.

DO you guys think the Lancers will be the next Honda Civic?
Dear Lord! I hope not!

No more crying yourself to sleep?

My philosophy is take the high torque and work with it. We've already got it to our advantage. I think LSDs are gonna be damn common in Lancers once they start getting a wee bit more built. ...And by common I mean necessary. Even with my new tires I still screech across intersections sometimes. ...Sometimes I don't mean to though!

spanking civics

well, i jus spanked a civic si wit intake manifold, dc-sport exhaust manifold, AEM cold air intake, exhaust, and some other crap with my turbo lancer. well, it was my bro's SI and he is jealouse now. the stock torque really improves with the turbo, it was good to begin with but now its so much better.
