Absurd Install Price?
Absurd Install Price?
So i purchased the Kamikaze headers and have been very anxious to install them. I know they are not to difficult and was thinking about paying some friends or a co worker to help me. However, i heard of some install problems from other forum members so i decided i would rather have a place do it. I called up Turbo RX here in Phoenix. They estimated it would take around 7 hours!??!?!? And the price would be around 600 dollars??? That is more then double what i paid for the dam things. Is this ridiculous or am i just stupid when it comes to installs? Any input here? Thanks
that is bull****....bring it to a regular mechanic, he'll put em in in 20 mins and charge you like 20 bucks. or you could also go to a place like Meineke, they probably do it cheap too. it really shouldn't be that hard, i bet you could do it yourself for free. just make sure you torque down the bolts to the correct tightness.
A header for the lancer is a DIY' task. Mitsu designed the 4g94 easier to replace the header than my 4g93 . . . I had to take off 1 engine mount and the p/s assembly (PITA).
700 bucks on labor - they better port and polish the cyl w/ new valve springs at that price. That's aburdly crazy!!!

Look up SEMA (if I'm correct) . . . they have fought to create laws about adding aftermarket stuff w/o voiding warranty. We all know the dealership is called SATAN, because they try to cheat you out of warranty repair.
Let makes an absurd example of faulty logic of some dealership: If having both intake and header, your starter suddenly goes bad. The dealership will try to convince you that your mods have damaged your starter.
By law, the dealership must prove that your mods damaged that particular part.
Here's a sane logic: you got greedy w/ NOS and blew apart your piston head and broke 3 conrods. You started to take all the NOS parts away before working under warranty. Suddenly, a head mechanic calls your bluff and shows you NOS type of damage (his experience). You're screwed.

I'm thinking of getting the kamikaze header. Does anyone have any performance info on it for me. The guy told me 20 hp +. Seems like a lot of hp for under 300 bucks. Anyone that has done this mod, input would be much appreciated.
I would be surprised that a mechanic (certified and owning a shop) would do the header install at all...unless it is a shady mechanic. Headers will almost always replace the pre-cat (haven't seen the headers you are talking about so I might be just blowing smoke out my a$$) and a mechanic can be fined pretty heavily for removing emissions equipment. You on the other hand should be able to do it just fine.
well, being the only one, i think, that had any problems installing the header, it still only costed me $60 for install after the shop guy spent 2 hrs. on install due to drilling the holes larger....$600...??? do you get a free hand job with that? Anyhow hp gain IS around 20+... now i can fly around WITH the air on (its been 105 around here) and with it off, kicks ***....sounds way loud too.

YEA
i got mine installed, nice
Had two friends helped me, took maybe 90 min. No problems in fitting. Only trouble was some rattling of the downpipe. However i just spent about 3 bucks on a "downpipe pillow" and but it on.
Very nice sound, reasonable power gain for sure. Still needs to break in though.
