Exhaust opinions

I have 3 I'm currently looking into. If anyone has any one of these and can tell me what they think about them it will be greatly appreciated. I know it sounds silly but I'm looking to get the one that sound the most like a muscle car I guess is the best way to explain it. I want a nice smooth deep tone. Not obnoxious but a bad *** sound

Greddy Spectrum Elite SE Part #10137952:

I'm very interested in knowing if you will lose power with the Greddy SE. I know i've always wanted the duel exhaust look on my Lancer 09 GTS manual but I've heard that you will lose power because of the reduced pressure. I'm still a complete noob so I really hope someone replies to this.

you will not loose power, but you should have any custom exhaust made by a shop that understands flow and proper exhaust diameter. Too large or two small will harm flow and be counter productive for making power gains in the right range.

In a single canister dual tip configuration You have to factor muffler in-flow as well as the sizing of the tips. I recommend against doing a Y pipe. You will lose power by doing this in most cases

Greddy SP or Magnaflow will likely be the two exhaust that come closest to what your looking for sound wise.

I should have stated that I didn't want to cut any pipe so the Magnaflow is a no and updated this thread that I actually ordered the Borla 11782. You know anything about the Borla? All I heard I did was listen to the videos on YouTube and it seemed to be what I was looking for. Atleast I hope.

I had emailed GReddy about that and they said you would gain 6.5 HP and cut about 10 lbs. But I've always wanted duals too but would need a new bumper

This is a huge misconception about the Magnaflow exhaust for the lancer. While the magnaflow exhaust looks like it is a cut job only. The design of the stock piping at the Cat shows that the exhaust interlinks and slides in. Here is in the install guide for their exhaust. http://www.magnaflow.com/07techtips/pdfs/16822.pdf

The magnaflow exhaust is the most powerful full bodied catback available for the Lancer. No other Axleback will match its power. performance differences become more apparent when used on a 2.4L exhaust

Believe me I am aware that you are much more knowledgable about the Lancer and most likely the different exhaust systems available for it. But even the link you sent me it is stated in both step 1 and 2 that the OEM pipe needs to be cut. Unless you sent me the wrong link and there is a way to attach the exhaust without cutting I would still be interested. Otherwise I believe I was right and wouldn't want to cut any piping to keep my warranty.

if your only looking for deep bass sound, i would just cut the resonator and replace the stock muffler with a magnaflow one. no rice. relatively quiet idle. HUGE roar when revving and accelerating.

That would be nice but like I said before I don't want to cut any pipe. I want a bolt on that would give me a deep tone

The only pipe that would be cut is the one that is JUST after the cat. There is a bracket there you are basically just making shorter. But I guess to each their own, even though evo soul who is about the most knowledgeable about the lancers on this forum gave you his opinion.

Trust me I'm fully aware of where it needs to be cut. It is a cat back exhaust after all. I've done my research plus it helps having family that owns an exhaust business. I just don't want any crap from the dealer about my warranty because I cut a small pipe.

You don't want the catback, besides cutting, it's not like it's going to give you much power in return for how much you'll pay lol. Just grab yourself an axelback that sounds decent and call a day.

Personally I own and highly suggest the Spectrum SE. Excellent sound, and this is coming from someone who was deathly afraid to buy any exhaust in fear of that god awful ricer buzzing tone. I definitely consider myself a tough critic on achieving that nice deep growl, and after tons of research Spectrum SE seemed to be liked the most. I honestly doubt you can find a disappointed review for it, I know I was very happy with the results. I wouldn't exactly call it a muscle car growl, but honestly you're not going to get that from any of these exhausts. That would require some custom straight pipe work and even then our little 4bangin engine would still prob sound kinda wack. The TC or w/e their other line is called is supposed to be much louder than the SE, but from what I've heard I'd also say it's dangerously close to that ricer buzz. I know the SE also comes in a version without the burnt tip, and they're releasing a brand new style, but honestly it might as well be another SE different name from what I can tell lol. I can't say anything on the other exhausts you're looking at, they may very well be decent as well.

Long story short, don't waste your money, just get a simple axleback, and give the SE some thought.

I thank you for the detailed opinion. That was the big concern of mine is sounding ricey. I know from some of the videos I've seen which believe me don't give any exhaust justice sounded like the SE could be a little ricey. I have since found a Borla exhaust system that the videos have actually sounded pretty good. Do you happen to know anyone with one installed or just heard one in person? Because they are the 2 I'm stuck between now really.

What brand new style are the coming out with? A new SE? Or the new SP that just came out a week ago or something I heard?

I have the GReddy SE on my GTS and I love it. You certainly gain power, although I can't give you an exact number as I installed a lot of other parts along with it prior to the dyno. Don't really know about the sound/hp gains from the other ones off the top of my head, but I highly recommend the Spectrum Elite!
