Supercharged crap????

Hey guys, those of you that cruise ebay have prob. seen this, so for those of u who don't check this out....any one have any comments on this? Would this possibly work?? I know it can never be close to a real supercharger, but will it do anything?

sellers comments::

You are bidding on a BRAND NEW Electric Supercharger kit for all years/models of the Mitsubishi Lancer. Unlike typical superchargers that get power from engine belts and can easily damage and blow cylinders, the new Electric Supercharger gets its power from the vacuum inside the throttle body as well as the 12 V power supply from your car battery! Spinning at 150 CFM at 8000 RPM! And using the activation switch included in the kit, you will be able to turn on your boost at open throttle for and instant kick. This will allow you to control your boost without having to purchase a $300 boost controller or timer. The supercharger will ram air into the throttle body at over 300 times the normal amount and significantly boost horsepower and torque. This is by far the best electric supercharger on the market for your money, as well as the safest, most reliable, and durable. 100% water proof and heat proof. Will NOT restrict airflow in intake when idle. Winning bidder pays $20 shipping charges in the U.S. Not recommended to be turned on at closed throttle. This is for Lancer's with intakes only. Not recommended for use with the stock air box. Will elongate intake tube by about 4 inches. Fits in between 3 inch wide intake tube and filter. Feel free to email me with any questions. We accept PayPal, money orders, and personal checks. Good luck and happy bidding

150CFM is what a high speed 120mm computer fan can produce. The air pressure is scarcely increased at best. If you aimed one at your face, you'd feel a mild breeze.

Ever stick your head/hand out of the car at 50MPH? It's a lot more than a mild breeze.

Compare the air that a computer fan can move versus the air that is forced through the intake simply by your car moving, and you'll realize that this can't do much. I remember hearing about something like this before, and the general consensus was that while it might improve airflow at a deadstop, it wouldn't do jack once the car was actually moving.

EDIT: Not to pimp a store that isn't mine, but here's a computer fan that can do 125.5CFM at 12V. http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/28/43.htm?409

And edogg23 is completely right. Once fans hit resistance, their theoretical CFM drops rapidly.

If that thing only spins as fast as darthchung said, I'm gonna have to raise the BS flag. I know, I know, it's been said a million times but: If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

I think 150 cubic feet per minute is actually a LOT more than you think. At work I use a powered respirator that only puts out 6 cfm through a 1.5 inch tube and it pumps a decent amount of air. You are talking about 25 times that much air. Granted the tube diam. is increased to 3 inches so your relative psi would decrease, but I would guess (I'm sure there is a mathematical way to calculate it, but I'm not that bored) you would get about 4 or 5 psi out of it. Which is as good as most s/c's I've seen. Only problem is that it isn't driven by your motor, so once you flip the switch it slams all that air into your intake, and if your motor is only idling at 800 rpm, it would friggin blow a gasket.

Chopped uranium's post down to it's core essentials

Alright first and foremost, this little device won't be producing the claimed 150 CFM's since the Lancer will only rev to 6500 RPM. If you look at turbochargers now, that significant difference in RPM can mean quite a bit of boost that your car is not making, and I'm sure with this "supercharger", it can equate to a large chunk of that 150 CFM. Now, mentioning this whole boost kick, I'm pretty sure this has to be at wide open throttle (WOT), much like a shot of nitrous. Nitrous crams a lot of supercold air into your car's ignition cycle making for gobs of extra power but only for as much as the tank can hold. However, this must occur at WOT so the car's fuel injectors are running at max in order to prevent the car from running lean and going kaboom. If this this "supercharger" is capable of cramming any sort of extra air into the engine, it must be a significant amount and occur at WOT to burn a good ratio of that extra air with additional fuel. Regardless of my tech theories, I'm still waving my BS flag proudly.

Because it will make the seller money.

Generally it's that silly.

It will not work. The main reason is that fan would not flow anywhere near 150 cfm when the air has no where to go and must be forced into the intake which is the case when you are trying to achieve forced induction. For example, a hair drier can flow a lot of air but when you can put your hand in front of it and it will stop flowing nearly as much air because it is not nearly strong enough to flow air when it is does not have a clear path. Same thing would happen to that thing.

PJAL, I think they are claiming that the electric motor inside this unit spins at 8000 rpm and pushes 150 cfm once you flip the switch. Your engine speed shouldn't matter, cause it isn't driven by the engine at all. That's the way I read it. Could be wrong though.

I don't think so since this whole unit banks on the combined inductive ability of both the the engine and that little fan do-hickey.
