Question - is it bad to drive without the o2 sensor in for the Kamikazi headers? I know when i installed them i just took out little wire that had the o2 sensor on it.

bad move or doesnt matter?

If one of the two o2 sensors gets thrown, you'll go into closed loop which causes your car to run extremely rich and you'll see a definite loss in mpg.

Yes, but lets think for a second....(Another member brought this to our attention, I by no means am going to take credit for this)

Those of us with a larger knowledge base know that the Lancers ECU can be piggybacked to reduce fuel conditions, but it isnt easily tricked into putting more fuel into the mixture. Now if you go into closed loop or "limp" mode, your running really rich. This would allow you to retune the car much easier since all you would have to do is reduce fuel, or lean the mix out. Totally off topic, but this post reminded me of the idea....

I need to get something because i just watched my almost full tank go to right in between 1/2 and 1/4 at only 98 miles. So i will be at like 130-140 miles per an 95% full tank. Pretty ****ty, I should atleast be around 200 i think.

Any suggestions how to get teh header o2 sensor to work without buying a MIL eliminator. or i think someone said something about a DIY Mil Eliminator? because i have 0$ right now, and it sucks!

Another dumb question - if I get the CEL, will that mean my car is running rich? I just remember my Beretta when the O2 went and how horribly it drove. I want to avoid that experience.

When it throws the CELs, does that affect the performance, or is it just a warning? Also, with a CAI, when you unplug the battery to clear the CEL, do you have to idle the car for 20 min. like the initial time?

I have the CEL, and run as such continuously because of having not wiring a trick into the O2 sensor and I have no issue with gas mileage. I'm still getting a solid 300 miles or more per tank. 220 ish or better in the city. So something else is up outside of the CEL if your gas mileage is sucking that much.

The first 02 sensor is what the engine uses to determine your rich/lean mixture. A thrown o2 will not immediately cause the car to go into open loop. Not unless it is getting no reading at all.

I was the one who posted about forcing the car into limp mode for tuning capabilities... so I can take credit for it

But anyway.. my point is that the CEL is not a real big deal by itself, and shouldn't cause your gas mileage issues. Your gas mileage will suck though if you run premium. Just a fact... run 89 or 87 octane and your gas mileage will go up.

and now rereading all the posts it is real easy to see why you are getting bad gas mileage IILancer02II... if you don't have that first sensor in the car your car has no idea what AFR it is running.. and you've got issues.

Also, there is an O2 bung on the Kamikaze header... sure was on mine... so double check to make sure you have that in place.. otherwise that very well could be the source of the noise issue you have as well!

How long did you have that car and you didn't know the back seat came out?
