Axleback to catback differences
THe sound changes - but its not like wow u can notice it from a distance away - only from like the next car over.
unless you have weak ears and like a soft sound, then the axle back is good for you , but if you actually want to be able to notice you have a muffler on your car and feel it as well as hear it go for the full cat-back or even test pipe and header it, if you love loud noise comming form your car, go the whole distance not just an axle back.
I didnt actually notice a sound i liked untill after i got the resonator ** stock ** removed and put in a strait peice of pipe, then it actually sounded fine, but then we added the headers and test pipe and boy is it ever loud now.

I have a rmr axel back a test pipe and rrm headers and my car sound like some one is shooting a gun off behind it pop pop pop I dont like the sound but I like the setup and deal with the horible noise
ya you have a lot of extra's to make the exhaust tone louder. If you dont like the popping noise , im not sure hwo you can fix that . . . but maybe removing the test pipe could help. I get that poop pop pop too, its horrible.
well i'd say it's more like showing off on the block your on and not like 5 blocks away, and your right i do like the soft deep tone, i do not want that loud high pich whine known in small displacement motors

F/I im just talkin 5-6 psi nothing more than that really....my bro could custom my exhaust free..so should i have a shop just weld my muffler on and just have my bro do it when i visit him this summer? im lost here, lol

I'm guessing that's not the answer you're looking for, though.

If you're going with a supercharger, you're going to want 2.5" catback so the exhaust gasses can leave more effectively. If you're sticking N/A, you'll probably just want an axleback to add some performance and give you good low-end power.

It just seems sluggish until 3500 rpm, at which point I feel as if the power doubles. I dunno. AEM cold air. Maybe it's just me, maybe the filter's dirty. Maybe just my personal situation.
catbacks dont void warranties.
piping size determines loss/gain of torque/horsepower. and design as well. bigger pipes loss low end to gain high end horsepower etc...
really though the loss of low end from a bigger cat back 2.25" or 2.5" is not that much. then again the gain isnt that big either for the high end. if you just want to change the sound then just do axle-back. If you want performance then do 2.25 or 2.5 cat-back for mid to high end gain.
I just recently changed my exhuast from factory 1"7/8 to 2.5" catback and could not be happier. then again I dont have a lancer so my opinion might not be valid. and to get rid of that whine get a resonator welded in.
