instead of test pipe....

Someone gave me this idea the other day, instead of buying a test pipe he said to just take the catylitic converter and a screw driver or something similar and just smash up all this **** inside of it. Im gonna try this when i get my exhaust here soon in the next couple weeks.

Torch...Crowbar...

This probably isn't worth the time in my book anyway, the power increase isn't going to be great and it might give you more headaches with the engine light comming on, depends what cat you hollow out though... Replacing it, if you have to will more expensive than a test pipe... Just my thought

You might not want to do that to your stock cat. Try getting a High flow cat or a Downpipe/Test pipe instead.

If you smash your stock cat your O2 sensors will know something is wrong and tell the ECU to dump extra gas = making it run rich, melt the insides of the stock cat and your car will sound like you are dragging a bunch of empty cans behind you (it's really annoying).

a new high flow cat is like what, 70 bucks. Save your car and yourself a headache and buy a high flow cat. Not to mention what you just said about smashing the inside of it sounded ghetto as hell. It's not an 82' Civic you paid $200 for, it's a brand new car, you should treat it as such. Just a little bit of advice though. No disrespect intended.,

Whole point of T.P. is that when emissions time comes around you just reinstall cat. My test pipe works great, andI have no worries about emissions test in a few years. Think before you SMASH!

I am not saying this is anybody here on LF or anything like that but one thing that I can't stand is backyard mechanics that go around with the mentality that a tube of J-B weld will fix anything and always do a half a** job on what ever they work on. If you are going to do a job, you do it right even if it means spending more money

plus for the 70 dollars you spend on the test pipe you get a lighter piece than the stock 2nd cat, and like was said, can still switch back. no screwdriver smash jobs, unless it's someone elses car.

you are very right...or so right as I should say...get busted with a test pipe is bad news...go to google and look up "busted with test pipe"(so what i was bored) and youll find some morons web page who didnt change back to cat when he had to go to a emissions test...$500 fine...for some reason he was pulled over for loud exhaust and they made him go to a emmision test the next day...glad I dont live in Cali....later
