Question Motor mount help

Okay, here we go - i have searched for this time and time again with no real help. When changing out the motor mounts with the ones from Deyeme Racing - do you guys go with the flex or the firm inserts ??? Second, do you guys replace the front one only or do you just go for the front 'cause the back one is a pain in the *** ??? I just gotta know

Chris

If I read thier ad right, it matters what you want/willing to sacrafice. The flex will give a smoother ride and less noise while the firm will give you less wheel hop but you will feel the engine vibration.

Chris,
First, just so everyone knows, our mounts are complete bolt-up parts, not just the "insert" in the middle.

Now, to address your question: yes, there is a gained to be had from only replacing the front mount, HOWEVER the rear mount is pretty weak, too.

Firm front, flex rear is a good combo for eliminating missed shifts and wheel hop, but keeping the NVH civil.

That's as they arrived from the box. These are firm mounts with black filling (you can choose the PU color last I checked). Stock mounts, DMR fillings. I've been nothing but pleased with mine...in fact I think they're the only things that kept my turbo from pushing through my radiator and heat exchanger.

I only have the front and think that is the perfect blend.

If it does it with mine then it should with yours... best cure for the wheel hop i found was the lsd but that's frigin expensive... but hey you gotta pay to play right??

Travis - you know what you must do now. Give us a detailed explanation of every possible combination.

The trouble is, it's so subjective! My wife loves the "feel" of the engine, so she knows when to shift. On the other hand I know some "real men" who complain about the firm mounts. Oh well- that's why there are so many choices!

What exactly do they do? I guess I don't really understand how they effect driving/performance/etc.

The stock engine mounts allow the drivetrain to rotate along its axis. When that rotation happens, the drivetrain geometry changes back and forth during acceleration, causing wheel hop (shuttering, bumping of the tires instead of either spinning or launching). Also, if the drivetrain is allowed to torque enough at the point you want to shift, the shifting mechanism attached to the transmission changes in distance to the shifter mounted inside the passenger area. That change in distance can actually be enough to cause you to miss a shift. Unlike the stock mounts, ours are SOLID flexible rubber. They still absorb some of the NVH (noise/vibration/harshness) but keep the drivetrain still, so you don't get the wheel hop, and don't miss a shift.
