RRM Piggyback Fed Up

I have about had it with my piggy back. The first time i hooked it up, major problems. Crappy idle that didnt go away and a CEL. The code was piston 2 misfire. Disconnected it, emailed Boe, found problem, kicked myself in the head because it was an install problem, and reinstalled it. Now new problem.

When hooked up the second time the idle problem i had the first time didnt happen but now CEL again, this time MAF/VAF low signal, and i am down on power across the board and the idle slowly climbs.

Is something broken, am i an idiot, or have others had this same problem?

Please help because im getting annoyed with this thing.

You should probably take your time and read through the postings in the RRM Piggyback review, and the Piggy thread in the Vender forum (it might be in the general forum, I forget). That will give you a general feeling for what's going on between yours and others. I have had problems in the past, and I'll be getting another Piggy from RRM shortly. It will be a quick install because I already have the connections soldered.

Double, triple, and quadruple check your installation. Check those pin numbers and the diagram exactly before you even reconnect your battery. There are a lot of wires on that harness and there isn't much slack either, so installation isn't the easiest, but it's not all that difficult if you take your time and be patient.

GOT MY PIGGY BACK TODAY!!! Hooked it up in about an hour. Taking my time. I read the other post on this topic -all two hundred and something. I have to say- I have not been disappointed in any of the products I got from road/race. When I first started the car, quick idle up to 3500 and then dropped off. No idleing problems -like others have posted. I soldered all the wires. Let idle for about 7 minutes- could wait to drive. Throttle response sucked at first, but I kept it slow not getting on it. Throttle response improved slightly throuhgout the drive. So I hit 50 miles, started to get onto I40 and I banged through the gears. First and second seem about the same, maybe a little less power in these gears. Third- PULLS-----HARD! I was impressed!! Fourth is a little better. Never got into fifth at all, had to slow down, fourth pulled past 100 easily. SO much better than before. There is a slight delay between 2nd and 3rd. Keep in mind that, I only have put 82 miles on so far. I am sure the ECU has some learning to do. One question I have, was the Piggy back supposed to eliminate CEL. SO far it has not come on. Usually it comes on right at 74 miles after resetting the ECU. One thing I did notice is that the pin out diagram on the directions are little confusing, if you didnt know what you are doing it is easy to get the pins confused, as some wires are the exact same color top and bottom. The pin out diagram is of the ECU (looking at it) not the plugs. Well worth the money-- ROAD/RACE does it again!

yea you can feel the gains, but i had some problems with it and roadrace was more than happy to let me exchange it for other stuff. even though roadrace sometimes charges a little more its worth it because everything they sell it quality and they stand by their sales, so you can say the extra money is a warranty.
At this point after going through 2 piggybacks and a lot of driving i would say i am no where near disappointed with roadrace just because they wanted to help.

thanks roadrace
^I think i went a little off topic..?

No prob... Solder all the wires.... Connect the T-PIPE on the Vaccum....

Start the car.... Everything is ok ...
More HP under my right foot !!

but, 80 miles later, the CEL light on !!
no prob with the performance
no prob with idle
The car run perfectly...

Sounds like the issue I encountered with mine. I'm pretty sure I hooked up the piggyback to the incorrect black wire. There are two on the wiring harness right above one another. We'll see once I get it back from RRM.

Double and triple check your wiring, it's easy to screw up because the wires are small and packed in there.

I don't remember exactly what code was thrown, but it was the code for a RICH FUEL condition. This basically meant something freaked out my ECU (the car's ECU, not the piggyback) and put it into an open loop mode. The car ran like crap.

Who knows, maybe you are throwing a different code. Take it to AUTOZONE, don't take it to the dealer because they will try to say your mods are what's screwing up the car.

yeah autozone should scan it for free as well... then you could clear it and see if it comes back. I'll talk to ROCK about these things. Biggest issues are install errors though and hooking up to the wrong wires is never good. You never know what you could have happen when you do that. Always make sure the wires are correct and the color specified... if in doubt just call for assistance. RRM would rather see it done right the first time then finding out about it like this and going backwards to only find out... OOPS wrong wire strikes again.

prob i had was the connection of the wires. sodder them its the only way to ensure a great connection. these for the most part (i think) are pretty low voltage and if not every copper wire is connected it looses power.

Fixed my problem. Bad install strikes again. Very happy with power. Currently at 150 mi and no CEL yet. Now on with the turbo.

Quick question, with the piggyback will i have any problems with the turbo running properly?

sometimes before jumping to blaming the part, always check your own work

even if you have problems.. try to talk to the vendor before airing it out in public.. RRM is good people

You can't run NA piggy on the turbo setup... you need to take it off. When your ready for stage 2 then have the piggy remapped for it and put it back on. You can't use the piggy with regular turbo just stage 2.
