Exclamation Had your warranty Denied/Voided?

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs...m#Magnuson-Moss

Magnuson-Moss warranty act states that the dealer cannot blame any warranted problem on just any aftermarket product present in the vehicle. They have to prove that the product is the direct cause of the problem you have. Also the denial or voiding of warranty has to be issued on paper for your reference, otherwise it is not legally denied or voided.

Example: A cold air intake Has nothing to do with faulty spark plugs and to pay the dealer $60 to change the plugs is a rip off.

we do... it says pretty much the same thing... as long as the product is approved by MMSCAN... which right now all there is: cold air intake and a cat back system... as long as it is dealership installed some dealers dont have this option, it all depends on who they go through for their warrenty costing... talk to your dealer and ask them... im about to take the void plunge on some new springs... the dealership wants $800 bucks to lower my car... but the import performance shop (who probally have a little more knowlage then the mitsu techs at the dealer) quoted me $400... there is a big differance from shop labour of $80/hr and $35/hr....

i just cant wait for the new Ralliart performance line (like mopar and ford racing etc.) a factory IC turbo that wont void warrenty... (dealer installed at $80/hr of course) im told it should be in canada in the next couple months

I can see how dropping a turbo on your car could void your warranty though. I mean you can't expect them to warranty you when you blow stock internals while running obsene amounts of boost.

Here are some news about SEMA-backed products or needing their help defending your cause against a dealership case for warranty.

I have talked to my brother about this stuff, and he has been a minitrucker for over 12 years. He knows most of the aftermarket products in the market aren't SEMA-backed (a company has to meet their standards via testing and pay to join them like the BBB. They are very big amongst the domestics).

Example:
A dealership claimed that your drop-in K&N toasted your ECU. You can call SEMA, and they will fry the dealersip a new one.

Example:
You have an Injen or Neuspeed CAI. The dealership can claim that the CAI fried your valves or headunit/radio. If those products aren't SEMA-backed, they won't help you.

As for the law of the land, I know it's there. Many dealerships skirt around it. It's like you're suing a restuarant and win the case. In the next day, you go and eat there again.

Denial of warranty.
When my brother had his mid-90's V6 sonomo w/ very few miles, it started to develop rod noises. He talked to a friend and found out about a GM service bulletin for his motor. At one dealership, they didn't or unwilling to see the service bulletin and claimed "no noises" . . . I even heard it the noise. Why can't they?

Then, my bro took it at another GM dealership. They knew about the service bulletin from GM and gladly tore down the motor w/ new internal under warranty.

Alos, just like CARB-approved parts, you need a certain paperwork in order to be legal in cali. Look up www.SEMA.org to see if certain product meets what standards.
