Smile AEM Cold Air Intake Installed

Hey guys...my long awaited cold air intake came in and I got it installed .

First putting it in, I had this mindset that it would be loud. For some odd reason, I though it would be noticeably loud right off the bat hearing it from in the front. But who was I kidding, it's not like I put a Hemi in there, LOL.

On start up it sounded the same. It was quiet at first gear through out rpms range, maybe slightly louder after 3000 rpm. But shifting to second was diff story. Reving it high around 3500 rpm and on, my car gave a deep resonating howl coming from the front. Then shifting to other gears, the engine sounded stronger on it's way up to 3500 rpm then it would howl once again.

Readings on the butt dyno....was impressive. Driving it out of the shop, seemed like a normal drive till I got onto the street. Wow, at launch off the light, 1st gear the wheel loses a bit of traction. More than a chirp, but the tires skid a bit. So I drived it harder, and it's pullin the RPM range faster and the pedal stiffer for more throttle play. I mean not crazy throttle response, but noticeably better. Not even dropping the clutch on 2nd, my tires chirped and it just keeps going.

So that's my little review on it. Only been driving it for one day now so that's all I can give you for now. Any comment welcome. I don't got the bypass valve on, and it's raining this Thurs, Fri here in Chicago . So any suggestions on that is welcome.

You should be fine as long as you don't go playing in some deep a$$ puddles. I am thinking about switching to CAI from SRI soon. Which CAI did you get?

all these horror stories of hydro locking the engine...maan, the mechanic was telling me how a Civics B18 blew a big hole cuz water got in. But the shop was bogus and probably trying to sell me their by pass valve they had. Well any reassurance that i won't get screwed with water is all good. I'll have pics soon in the show/shine.

Just wondering....our stock cars have mud guards on the bottom...u know the black plastic panels. My CAI is pretty well kept and protected from outside elements such as rain. Like if I looked under the car, the filter is hidden in there. Now where I'm getting at is...I'm getting my Kaminari bumper installed soon. And wouldn't the CAI be totally exposed now. Those plastic panels come off with the stock bumper right? I'm getting worried cuz I get the new bumper in, then i really have to worry about water.

Cant you just modify it. Maybe cut the tube so it isnt so low to the ground, or cut it, bend it, and/or add a bent ext' so that it wont face down and gets the cold air slaming into the front of your car.
Just guessing, I dont hace a CAI.

About those mudguards. Are they really part of the front bumper? I thought they were a seperate piece. Hopefully they are sperate, at the end of winter I hit a big chunk of ice on the highway and it ripped the guard off.

I'm not ready to buy a body kit yet, but I don't want to have to replace the OEM bumper either. hmm. Also I have a RRM SRI and my friend has a AEM CAI also. He likes his I like mine. SRI is great it seems to kick in at a little over 2500RPMs for me.

You could modify it, but that'll defeat the purpose of the CAI. It's suppose to have a secluded spot away from the heats of engine bay, and that's usually where it is, in between the left front tire and front bumper. It's also has a bracket that mounts onto the frame, without it the last piping with the filter, it would dangle around too much with no support. So if you do decide to cut it, not only will it get closer to the engine (heat), but you will need to remount it somwhere else on the frame, hence rewelding a bracket on the piping, and find another spot to anchor to or make a new anchor.

stfaud >> The mudgaurds that protect the front bottom of our bumpers are seperate and come off. But i'm just saying the measurements of an aftermarket bumper won't measure to stock measurements, so those plastic pieces most likely have to go, leaving everything exposed. That's my hypothesis, but I don't have my kit on yet.
