Lightbulb New SR setup?

Hey has anyone tried this? It was recommended to me by a friend to help reduce the hot air coming into my filter, to tell you the truth, i can tell the difference, plus seems to be a louder growl. Well, whadda ya think?

Seems viable. I doubt it's gonna make much of a difference, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Are you sure that yo're getting enough air near the tranny.? I'm thinking the filter will have a lot more debris and water being kicked up by the car near the tranny area.

Have you tried to determine if the air is really cooler there? Obviously, it's warm right over the engine where the short rams usually are located from the engine, but where it is now is just behind the engine... hard to tell from the image how deep it's going, but it may even be closer to the heat of the exhaust? And it's further from the airflow through the engine bay I'd think. You should see if anyone you know has one of them laser thermometers of something to get a temp reading of the filter in both places.

Well from the obvious, i put my hand where it used to be (right next to battery) and then where it is now and i can FEEL cooler air where it is now compared to the hot *** air next to the battery. But about the debris, not sure but i will let it ride for a few days and check it. Im off to see if i can change my belts & tranny fluid without destroying my car. haha thanks for your opinions!

Oh right. One thing to keep in mind is that the transmission heats up quite a bit during movement too, so you may get air that's just as hot. Personally, I say it can't hurt. Do whatever floats your boat.

Good point... but I'll bet that the best case scenario for the short ram is about the difference between a short ram and a cold air intake. So basically, I think the consensus is that the change will be next to nothing since it seems that the cold air intakes offer little benefit over the short rams, if any. In other words, if you like it and you're sure it's safe from water/debris/etc, put that filter wherever you want and enjoy!

The only thing that worries me is that the engine moves under high revs.

Make sure that with the forward and rebound movement of the engine that the intake doesn't get squashed or bent or otherwise.

imo, it won't make a noticeable difference, and it is sitting behind one of the hottest parts of the engine. But I honestly doubt a dyno would show more than 1 hp difference between any of the intakes available for the Lancer.
