Question anybody hear of drive belts wearing out around 40k?

I got a oil change yesterday and the service advisor said the drive belts should be changed soon. The car only has 39,000 miles. Seems early to me. Guess I will need to wait since I don't have the $165.00. They did do the fan recall.

Possible. The belts them selves can't cost more than $30 and with a little elbow grease, you should be able to install them in less than 1 hour.

My belts are starting to squel a little bit. I only have 30,200 miles on my car. I need to replace them soon, but the I can't figure out the how the lower belt comes off. BTW, Powder you are right about the cost. I found both belts and they were about $17.00 plus shipping.
