Question Dang this Rain!!

Well i installed a AEM cold air intake on my car sometime ago, and it's just starting to rain around cali, i never bought one of those addition breathers, because i siad, "hey cali sun all the time wtf do i need that." Well that changed now.My car has been sucking up water into the intake and stalled out a few times going to work in the morning. I was wondering when the water goes up into the intake and makes the car stalls-out does that do any really bad damage to my car?!?!

Yes. Definitly research hydrolock. But as another Cali driver with a CAI, the problem occurs when you submerge the filter in water - which means you're more than bumper-deep in a puddle. Thats some serious puddle-age! (please correct me if I'm wrong, but) if you can keep out of deep water like that, you should be ok.

...and northern CA or southern? I know it's raining in the SF Bay Area right now...

*sigh* search hydrolock, i made a pretty straight forward thread on this, with just about every relevant search key in the description.

i really dont go in deep water, i just dont have all that plastic stuff on my weel-well and under my car so it splashes from my tire stright into the cold air intake, my bust for breaking them and throwing them away, lol. I looked up hydrolock, i never heard of such a thing but i checked it out and wrote him a e-mail

i am in the same exact situation you are in. i have CAI and no inner fender lining, so i thought i was sucking up water as well. but i found out it was just my spark plugs because cyllinder 4 was missfiring. i may have sucked up water and possibly fouled the plugs prematurely, but i dunno about that.

aem cai turns into aem sri VERY easily ... i have an aem cai .. it started raining here .. car was sluggish, felt the filter and it was SOAKED (even though i have "Recharged it") .. so i jsut turned the cai into a sri for the winter/rainy season.

^If it isn't too much trouble, could you post a pic? Last time I poked around my engine bay last week, it didn't seem like the upper pipe had the right angle to accomodate the filter and MAF quite right.

I don't have that plastic thingy in the front of my bumper ......... rain, car wash, whatever, I never had a problem. Just make sure you have the bottom plastic underneath the car.

a few drops of water wont harm your intake/engine. now if you actually submerge the whole filter......... you're in trouble. make sure to check everything. sprak plugs, etc. etc. i highly doubt your filter is sucking up that much water. even though its getting sprinkled on you should be ok.

I'll try and take a pic of my aem cai turned into an aem sri. really, just remove the tubing to the filter on the bottom and mount the filter directly to the mas adapter.
