i lost so much oil back in april and it never even registered, so you amy not know, but you would see teh signs, like an oil spot in your driveway. cant raelly help with being able to diagnose tho. if it was leaking from the headgasket, dont you think you would see oil on it? this could be more than one problem, which you probably are saying anyways. i know you can get our motors for really cheap so that may be a possibilty to swap it out completly if its something really serious.

oh and i think we are going to be isntalling the springs, sway, rotors, and pads tuesday, if you want to come.

LKQ's a good outfit, that's where I bought mine. Shipping is KILLER though- without my buddy's discount (because he works for the shipping company they use) shipping would have been about $250. Still cheap for a motor

HOWEVER- we don't know that the problem IS the motor. I'm still convinced the hard hit, on basically rubber-band wrapped wheels, did some damage to the tranny.

ya, i'm no doctor, or mechanic for that matter, but off the top of my head, maybe its your motor just burning oil? not being able to smell it, I really can't put my finger on it, but on a side note, when you ran that thing over, maybe the axle was bent? ive had buddies hit weird stupid crap that didnt seem that big a deal, like road kill, but turned out, whoops it was

short of getting under it, i looked some more today, and couldn't see any leaks. its also been WAY too long to be something i ran over. its been a couple months. had it checked out right after, and the first thing i was told was a twisted sub-frame and bent control arm. i didn't buy it though (there's NO WAY i hit it that hard), so i took it for a second opinion, and they didn't see evidence of any of that, they even walked me out underneath for a look, and gave me a free alignment check. checked out fine. how could you twist the sub frame and have your alignment be fine?

the smell has been getting truly progressively worse. it didn't start till about a month after the fact, and only VERY slightly noticeable. now every time i get out of my car, i'm like DAMN, my car is STINKY!

honestly, i REALLY REALLY wouldn't be surprised if it the axel, or axels, because even when coasting there's a very slight up/down wobble, like a rim is bent (but they aren't). if that's causing some added friction, then that might be making the smell.

i'm taking a week off after Christmas, all i have to do now is find an honest mechanic (which is going to be harder than diagnosing the problem).

Hey bro i smoked my clutch on accident the other day and let me tell you, it was not like any clutch smell i have smelled before, i still wouldnt count that out.

U could have a c-v joint transaxle seal prob, its over the exaust, and oil could be landing on it and burning, also could explain the rubbing sound u hear, when u turn the wheel. c-v could even be bent rubbing on suspension parts as it rotates. Bent. out of balance, or just plain worn out c-v's cause vibration in the steering.

The sucky thing is that lancers do well over rough terrain, cus of the front torsion bar so u must have had to hit it reeely hard. of course clearance was possibly an issue due to the z-rated tires.

and we have a winner! took it to the dealer again today, and here's what they came up with.

1. the burning smell is from a leaky CV joint
2. the rubbing noise is from the same joint
3. the on/off light vibration is most likely from the rims needing to be rebalanced (looks like one threw its weight strip)

best part is, the dealer is covering the whole thing under warranty! i told them EVERYTHING that happened, when, where, how, and they aren't charging me a dime! HOLLER SERVICE ROCKS!

yep, driving it down to the honest dealer. they can also inspect for any damage from being rear ended this week (i only saw 2 tiny scratches).

AND THE LANCER LUCK CONTINUES!
