Personally, I'm taking a balanced apporach. I put in a new headunit and new speakers. I'm not putting in a sub. I also did a few show things like debadge the trunk, put on mudflaps, and tinted the windows. And then for proformance I have an SRI from RRM, a Magnaflow Catback exhaust, a short shifter and a front strut bar.

I'm done for the most part on my sound. I plan to get a new grill for the car as far as show goes. And for the go I plan to do some suspension work and maybe get a RRM Piggy Back unit.

My point is: Have a plan and stick with it. I'm about half way done with where I want to be but plan it out.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to give myself a little more time to decide, despite the fact that I'm really anxious to buy something. I do have soem performance mods. already, buschur catback exhaust system, rrm piggyback, bored throttle body. Maybe I'll do a little stereo and a little performance versus all or nothing. Thanks again.

id have to agree with the huys on performance, ive had my car 2 years today, and i have 2 fosgate 12's, a pro series alpine 12 and and a 300 watt fosgate amp still sitting in my shed... all because i wont install it all unless i have a new Head Unit.

Look at bang for the buck. If you are not planning on going all out on modding and you as a result are not going to notice any considerable change in performance, then get a nice stereo system.
Or split the money. If you look hard enough you can find used performance and stereo products and you might get away with a little of both. The private for sale board here, eBay, ubid.com, pawn shops, local want ads are all good places to look for a deal. Especially on stereo stuff. People are always selling their used stereos, amps and subs for short money

Good luck.

I say performance. The stock stereo isn't that bad...it's got a CD player with it! My Civic DX has a crappy *** CASSETTE PLAYER (what the f**k is this, 1989?) but damn those speakers are loud!!!

Er, anyways, how loud CAN you have the stereo anyways? When my stock lancer stereo is set at 49 it's pretty damn loud as it is. All I need is for MYSELF to listen to my music, not other people. I guess if you have some kind of bizarre need to ADVERTISE your music to others, go ahead and get the head and sub amps and all that expensive ****....keep in mind that it goes beyond the practical listening level and is only meant to cause a commotion on the street.

If I'm gonna turn heads I'll do it with a nice intake/header/exhaust package. I'd rather have people notice me as that fast-loud-as-hell Lancer than the Lancer blasting New Wave/Frank Zappa/Mozart/Disco/Euro Trance/James Bond music.....see, I have a weird taste in music

Nothing sounds better than the sound of a engine.

Go for engine parts. If you feel the need to upgrade the sound system, get some 4-ways. I think the lancer speakers are all 6.5 all around. Besides once you get afew hundred in engine parts, nothing is going to be louder than the engine inside the car, well, maybe the road! haha! Besides, rap sucks and bass is gay! ( I think.)
