RED Climate control done!
just wanna share my happiness after i finished this project. It took me 30 minutes including driving to autozone to get the blub caps. I know there already are a few tutorials but mine is kinda different. Heres what i've done:
1) buy the 194 red bulb caps from autzone because they didnt have any for 74 bulbs. (2 caps for $1.49)
2) go home.... pull the knobs on the climate controls, unscrew the 2 screws behind each of the bigger knobs.
3) use a little force to pry out the faceplate, there arere 6 clips holding it on.
4) unscrew the 4 screws holding the clear plastic, now u can deal with the bulbs
5) there are 2 small bulbs with blue caps on them, take the caps off (dont have to take the bulbs off)
6) use a 600 grit sandpaper to sand the bulbs a little so i could paint them with a red permenant marker, because only the bulb cap is not red enough.
7) cut around 1/8 of an inch off the bottom of the 194 red caps
8) nicely stuff the top part of the caps into the clear plastic piece where the bulb goes through
9) carefully put the plastic piece back, screw the 4 screws back, push the faceplate back on and screw the last 2 screws in. At last, put the 3 knobs back and enjoy!
but now im having trouble taking the gauge cluster apart... please help me! i unscrewed all the screw but i just cant slide the cluster out.... its stuck..

pics: there are actually a few bad things about this, first its that the AC faceplate where u adjust the coldness (blue part) also turned kinda redish... and that the needles on the gauge cluster are also red so its kinda confusing when u glance it at sometimes.

OH for the gauge cluster i didnt use the blub caps, i took off the blue cap, sanded the bulbs and painted them with permenant marker for 5 coats. It will fade eventually, but it will last until i get some real red blubs. here's one more pic
