It states from the link that "the "Evo," is powered by a 252-hp 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline four." Bummer

From: houston tx,
who cares about the horsepower. What matters is whether or not it has the same engine, and I don't think mitsu has a 4-cyl engine that it would put in the Evo other than the 4g63t. HP figures don't even matter to me, 'cause there will always be an aftermarket.

Yea, it's a typo alright.

It's supposed to read 352 hp.

Like most ofyou said, if it keeps the same hardware, all you need is some aftermarket ECU work and you'll be up to and beyond the standard 280 bhp in the rest of the world.

From: houston tx,
well, unless Mitsu restricts the breathing of the car through piping diameter and whatnot. THat can be fixed even more easily than ECU reprogramming though... ARGH! why are we even having this conversation. We all know the evo is coming with the 4g63 and all the handling goodies, so its not really an issue. I just can't wait to get my hands on one of these things. The only thing mitsu can do now to **** me off is take away the brakes and recaros. If our recaros go the way of the integra type R recaros, I'm going to be royally pissed.

Isn't 280 just what mitsu tells the japanese gov't??
(I mean... Skyline also has 280ps??)

Japanese spec should be at least 310ps... so 255hp would equal
to a 55hp detune... quite substantial if you ask me.

No, a japanese spec Evo has about 280-286 Bhp. They've been dynoed and have been found to be very constant. AFA the Skyline, I'm not too sure if the stories of 320 bhp standard Skylines are all true either. I believe it when I see it with my own eyes on a calibrated dyno. Also, you should take into account the differences between BHP and SAE-HP, which are quite big I think.... What factor is used to calculate between them?
