Evo price vs Others.
Evo price vs Others.
"Nissan not only debuted its new Z sports car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but unlike some other manufacturers debuting 2003 models, it announced the price of the car, which goes on sale this summer. The 350Z will start at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $26,269 (excluding destination and handling).
The new Z features a 3.5-liter V-6 designed to produce 280-plus horsepower, available 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission or 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, 4-wheel independent suspension, 17-inch Aluminum-alloy wheels and 255/50WR17 (front), 235/50WR17 (rear) tires"

Wow! what a nice Starting price for the new Nissan Z, I hope for Mitsu's sake that when they bring over the Evo they leave everything intact and the Hp intact for a price competative with the new Z's and RX8's. I wonder if this will have any inpact on the RSX and WRX's price seeing as a wrx is in that price range too with only 228hp. Any thoughts?

in the next two years, americans will finally have good sports car choices again. fast & cheap or fast & expensive. this is a wonderful thing. i've never been alive in an era like the one thats coming up, or the old muscle car era. I'M SO STOKED!

The next few years will actually be difficult for car enthusiasts in America - I can't believe we've gone from a time of so few choices (after the JPN GT's pretty much left us in '95) to a period where we'll actually be pulling our hair out from having TOO MANY choices.
Of course I want the Evo, but I like the Sti as well... and the new NSX, and the GT-R and 350Z - and just think about all the wonderful late-model used cars that will be available in 2003-4. E46 M3's, Corvette Z06's, 993 Carreras, NSX's... actually I'm a bit worried that the sports car market is going to get flooded in 4-5 years and go into another slump.
Woops, look at me babbling. I'll go back to lurking now.

(If I would have known about the '03 Evo when I bought the car, I'd be driving a used HyunDaeWooKia and saving the $$)

993 is old. Guess you meant 996. Still pretty ****ty, looks even worse.

I'm a perverted leather fan
Just kidding.
Actually - I meant the 993, as I still love the body style and it might be attainable to someone w/less than 40K to spend in 2004.
Hey, I think 911's are pretty, but that's just my opinion. And it's not like you can call the Evo's "pretty"!
I'm a car *****, I like most sports cars.

I agree, the 993 is much nicer than the 996. I used to have a 993, before the M3. And believe me, it is EVEN SLOWER than the M3! If you pay 40k for one of those when an Evo is 30k, then you are definitely suffering from severe leather attraction!

Claudius,
yours was a 964!!!
BTW the new m3 is not bad but it has nothing to do with an evo!
Don't forget that you US guys hav a lot of straight lines where you notice acceleration or top speed, but on back country roads it will be difficult to be faster than an evo!
The skyline gtr and the nsx are wondrful cars, as they could be modifyed easely compared to an m3!

Re: Re: Re: (lurker chimes in)
I had a track instructor @NHIS take me out in his Z06. I thought I was making decent time before that, but every time he hit the loud pedal at the entrance to a straight, it was like "wwhooooOOOOAAAA!!!"
Hey, some of you folks went from an M3 to an Evo, right? Can you compare their on-track manners?

That's right, MAXI, 964, a 993 with 4WD.
On the track, the M3 will have to be slowed down a lot when cornering to get some grip on the front. It will oversteer like mad once you start accelerating out again. The Evo can go in much faster, sustain the speed and drift out of the corner much faster than the M3. You wont believe how fun it is to come out of a curve going 60 or 70 mph with the back of the car drifting a little, just needs a little correction and it faster than anything else I've seen (which inlcudes Porsche Turbo, Modena, Maranello and Yamaha R1). Passed an R1 once on a mountain road, and yes, I have a witness...
