short shifter
Lancerchick84, I'm not trying to call you out or be an *** in anyway. I would just say that it's vital that you do some research on this, both here on Evom, and other areas.
Like someone meantioned before, this can be proven by physics. If you feel the need to have the person that is doing this modification and telling you that it works come onto this site we welcome the discussion but the hard facts will, in the end prevail against the notion that chopping a stock shifter will result in a faster gear shift. Also if this person is charging for this job then you need to get your money back and kick them in the apporpreate are of most damage, ie the nuts. They lied hardcore to you.
I know now that it might seem like you are in the right, and we've all been there, but sometimes we get information from individuals that don't have a clue or are just looking to make a buck on those more ignorant than themselves. I hope you don't feel as if anyone is putting you down. We just want the correct info to be out there for everyone.

I went with the TWM Performance Short Shifter in my OZ, comes with new bushings, about 35% shorter throw. Feels much better then the stock one, and the shifter is much stiffer now also.
when you cut it you do reduce the physical movement of your hand, but it is much harder to shift becasue like fox said there is less leverage. I believe (not 100% positive) that b&m, lancershop, ect. move the fulcrum point up, thus extending the length of the shifter below the the point of rotation which makes up for the lack of leverage, they also use a counter weight to make up for the leverage. So while cutting the stock shifter, which is what some companies do, will make the throw shorter, the good aftermarket companies do actually change the throw even more w/o affecting the necessary input force to change gears. Also note that it is very important to get aftermarket bushings when doing this. THe bushings give it that tight feel.
Short Shifter Info
Hi everbody,
There's seems to be some information out there that keeps people debating about this subject. The truth of the matter is that to create a true short shifter the geometry must be changed both above and below the pivot point. Reducing the height alone will not transform a stock shifter into a short shifter. You can check out our FAQ page, it might shed some light.
