www.kbb.com .. then go to used car pricing ---> sedan ---> mitsubishi ---> lancer ---> insert your model year and zip code ---> private party value ---> select your model and options to see the value.
My 2003 OZ Rally is worth.. a whopping $10,815 + all my extras if I was going to sell it as-is. I have about $3k more in mods.. or something around there.

First off, the value of your car seems overestimated there. Not trying to knock, but we've all seen what Lancers sell for used.

You have a 50-50 shot of getting totalled out. Used Lancers usually run around 7k, so it's close. Depends on the insurance company.

PS - I like ya, but this isn't going to become a partout thread. So make a thread for that, if it comes down to it.

I doubt they'll total it. Usually they look for 75% or more of FMV before they total a car. Doug, don't forget the difference in sale prices between person to person sales and dealership sales. At worst I think they'll ASK if he wants it totalled.

Most insurance companies dont only use kbb. A lot will shop around the area and see what they are selling for, and use that value w/ the kbb value to come up with a value. Like everybody else said ur sittin right on that line.

I'm in the same boat my friend. My '03 OZ "was" totalled by the insurance co... Nationwide...cough cough. But spent too much time and money into upgrades; so I'm going the other route. Contract repair. The est. value, w/ 48k miles was $10,900, according to them. Was told that the estimate for repair can't be over 75% of the est, minus dedutable ($500). So, I'm looking at an est under 7,7xx. Shouldn't be a problem...my airbags didn't even deploy!!! Take a look at my damage and compare... ( https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...78#post1954978 ). Good luck.

some guy hit me a little over a year ago, my car should have been totaled, but they valued it at $13,000, but i got the car for 9. to repair it cost his insurance co. 7200. its hard to say how much damge is done, because as they continued to look at my car they found more and more. after i got it back, i had it appraised at a dealership and they had said they could give me 5500 for it because it had been wrecked. its hard to say what all the damages will total, but if they do not total your car, its definitely not worth selling it because the amount they will pay for it will probably be some rediculously low number, unless you find a private buyer that wont bother looking at the carfax hisotry report. good luck.

That $10,xxx value is based on private party re-selling, meaning if I was the only owner and took good care of the car, servicing it regularly, and selling it out of my own home. Trade in value turns out to be more like $7,000 to $8,000. Plus the dealership is going to rip you off even more anyways. Go back out there and look what they are selling your car for. My friend traded in his car for $5000, and we went back a week later and they had a sticker price of $8,000 on it.

I just traded my 03 OZ in with 37,xxx miles on it and got $8500. It all depends on the dealer and if they can get someone lined up to buy from them. My dealer had a wholesaler waiting to take it.

Not at all, the grinding is totally random, and I know that the person test driving my car did not experience it...
