This is no joke. My cat-to-downpipe bolts were rusted so bad that my friend's impact wrench had to be turned up to 600ft-lbs to bust them loose. Hopefully installing the test pipe this time around won't be too difficult. I'll probably be buying the high flow cat from RRM when I have to get my emissions tested again down the road.

What diameter is the piping on the HFC? 2.25" or 2.5"? Boe may have answered this in another thread, but I haven't seen it yet and it's good to have the info here in case someone actually searches (unlikely as that may be).

To facilitate bolt removal you can also try soaking the bolts in Coca-cola overnight or heating them gently with a torch...just be careful and stay away from fuel. I'd recommend against that one unless you know what the hell you're doing.

My friend almost blew a vein helping me pull the screw counter-clock wise on one of the screws on the stock exhaust system Jay, I hope to be going to one of the meets one of these days... I've been busy with work since they given me more chores to do.

i was actually 2 secs away from taking my torch to the bolt, but decided against it cause me + fire + nearby flammable objects = catastrophy. i finally got the bolts loose on my own and with brute strength (no impact wrench here sissies!)

as far as gains, its really hard to say. the car is running better, but that is most likely because of the fixed o2 sensor so its running as it should. gains are similar to a header: it helps top end and hi speed accelaration, perhaps not 15hp, but it does feel better. hard to tell really

to be honest, my butt dyno isn't that sensitive. even when i slapped on my rrm PB, i knew the gain was there, but I couldn't feel it. but when i took it off, i missed the power. for $150 bucks, pick it up, especially if you are planning FI.

if you have catback and headers/dp, then pick it up to complete your exhaust system. by itself without having more open exhaust adn especially with no headers/dp, i doubt there is anything to be gained though, so keep that in mind

Sounds good. I might order this instead of the test pipe now.

Also, can you take a pick of your extended O2 sensor. I might have it put towards the back when I get my HFC installed. Well if I tell the shop to put my O2 sensor in the back of the HFC, they should be capable of making it longer to fit? No?

i'll see about a pic tonite when i get off work.

as far as putting the o2 sensor toward the back, keep in mind we arent' talking about rewelding on a new nut or anything, since the magnaflow is bidirectional (or so i'm told) you just flip it around, cut wires, solder in extensions, and your done

frankly, i would be concerned if a shop COULDN'T solder on a 12" extension of wire. hell, i did it upside down on my back while squashed under my car.

now whether a shop WILL mess with o2 sensors and catalytic converters, i dunno

Um, dumb thought - pull the console. Underneath the carpet, you can unclip the O2 sensor from the plug inside the car. Pull out the rubber grommet. Take the resulting cord inside the house and solder it.

Actually, here's what worked for me - trial and error.

My dad was supposed to be holding up the cat. But low and behold, when that last bolt got pulled, the cat dropped to the ground. Since the O2 sensor is screwed on, that wasn't going to go anywhere. Luckily, the plug just came unhooked and the O2 sensor wire came out of the car. So I pulled the console and pulled up the carpet and located the other end. Amazingly enough, the connection wasn't damaged and it plugged right back in. So when I did the cat-flip, I remembered that and just pulled the wire. And we soldered in the nice warm house (this was a winter swap).

just a little update:

since install i've driven a few days, putting on 150 miles. usually my CEL would have come on after a solid pull on the highway, but TADA! no CEL yet and everything is still running strong.

Another project to do... extend 02 Sensor, but blacksheep's way. LOL.

What I might do first is wait for my throttle body and a lot of people say that tuns off the CEL from the header. Not sure how that works?

Someone needs to make a sticky about the cat flip for CEL delete. I knew nothing about it until this post.

bah, ya weeny, take it like a man and drip solder on your face.

my cel stayed on when i added the tb, that is kinda funky sounding. i know boe told me a while back his cel went off when he went turbo though

tell ya what, i'll see what i can do about a cat flip sticky. are we talking just an informative post about how to get rid of cels or perhaps a how to? i think an informative post on how to get rid of cel would be best.
