Questions on evo V

sorry, I don't know which tech section AYC would go under. here's my question. I'm buying an evo V soon, but it's used. the evo V had a rear end accident but has been fixed. people say if it's fixed, I shouln't worry too much. I should really worry if it's front end damage. should I be worried? also, he said there might be air in the brake lines cuz there is a noise that comes from it under tight turning. would this be accurate or could it be a bad pump? is that expensive to replace or to do? I was wondering if there is anything I should be worried about in purchasing a used evo. thanks!

The noise will be the AYC working and depending on how loud it is, could be old fluid and maybe even air in the lines. Describe how loud the noise is, cause you will hear the AYC even if it's fully serviced.

noise

the guy says it's a slight groaning noise. I don't know what that means. also, the engine makes a clicking noise when idling. he said it may be the lifters. the noise comes and goes. do you know about the wheels and if they will fit on an evo VII? thanks!

you seriously need to take the car to a qualified mechanic before you buy it. this goes for any car, including an EVO. they aint invincible...

Is the car legalized for the US? Also, what kind of damage was done previously?

Try and inspect the rear of the car throroughly and look for where the damage occured. My girlfriends Impreza was rear ended and the entire rear was crushed... so much thta the roof started to buckle from the damage and the frame was bent. Ever since the car has never been the same.

Also try a search on AYC and see if anything comes up. I remember this being discussed at some point. Worst case you could go through the trouble of replacing the AYC with a regular LSD. Claudius should be able to help with that.

You realize if you do buy it I'll be down in Richmond faster than your Evo V will get to 60

Good luck,

Mark

The slight groaning noise is quite normal, just depends on how loud it is, cause even when it's at it's worst it's not that loud, so it's a bit hard to diagnose. As for the ticking it could be the lash adjusters at start up probably because of too thin oil. As docious said, have the car checked by a pro before buying. Try and find a rally team that uses an Evo to have a look at it.

Michael K. A slight groning noise from the AYC is ok!
I would be very concerned with a noise from my AYC unit as repairs sre very expensive. I suggest you get it checked out properly by someone who knows what they are doing.

Good luck getting titled and registered without a VIN number.

Is the car already in the US? If not, I would simply wait for the Evo7. I looked into this before, trying to import a GC8 STi from Australia, and it just wasn't worth it....

Let me guess, you're buying it off of a truck from some guy named "Guido" and you've got a cousin that works at the DMV...
