K&N filter cleaning info please

I have cleaned my K&N for my AEM CAI, and it still looks dirty as hell, any ideas what I am doing wrong here? I am using the filter cleaning kit too. It is sort of dark and discolored in some areas. I had to reclean it because I think I over oiled it the first time I cleaned it. After I drove it for a month the dirt was just literally caked on the filter, ans I know that isn't right. Also after it is cleaned, how much oil is enough to re-oil it?
In the mean time I am using a friends spare Greddy Airinx on loan until I get my stuff straight.
Should I just get a new one instead? If so what's the part number I should look for at Autozone since they sell them here.

Try rinsing it out with soapy water, then let it dry. Then recharge it with the recharge kit and follow the directions. If you feel the need to buy a new one, then measure your filter (length, base diameter, top diameter, opening diameter) and go to the link below to find your filter for an awesome price.

There is NO reason to have to buy a new one. If the dirt is caked on there was either too much oil or just a lot of road debris where you drive. Like livelyjay stated, wash it with mildly soapy water, then hit is with the degreaser, then the soapy water again, then rinse, air dry and lightly reoil. The only time it needs to be replaced is if it is ripped or has holes.
I have had the one in my Z for 9 years.
