What is the truth?

Ok so the dealership that I bought my OZ from said that the block of my OZ and the block of the EVO8 are the same(True or False). If true what makes the difference between the motors? G94 G69(Ralli)? I am a noob when it comes to the engine of lancers. I bought the OZ because it was in my price range and I was hoping to be able to mod it up to an evo, but by reading quite a few threads I am starting to think my dreams are going to by crushed.

false, the engine in the evo is entirely different. It's a 4g63, the OZ is a 4g94. You can still turbo so you aren't completely out of luck. Personally, I think a RA wouold have been a better start.

That's what you call a "big ****ing lie". The ONLY things the blocks have in common is that they're both cast iron and the same displacement.

EDIT: Oh, and props to you for reading first.

maybe he meant the are both 2l 4cyl engines, so the block is roughly the same shape perhaps (1997cc and so on), but no, they are not the same block, not very close at all

Read further my friend.

I was fooled when the Lancer came out also. I was convinced that I bought a real Rally car. I was sadly mistaken. I wasn't really into cars to understand the capabilities. I knew how to drive MT. I just didn't know much about cars. And commin' from a 87' Honda Civic Hatchback... the Lancer was much better.

A side note- I'm a firm believer that some of the salesmen are a bunch of yes men. Not all of them. There are honest ones too. But there are some who don't know the difference between brake drums and brake discs.

The chances of the Lancer becomming an Evolution are just as slim one of us actually going out and making a sucessful conversion. I haven't seen or heard of a successful story yet.

But don't fret about it.

You have yourself a great car. We're the people who appreciate the Lancer for what it is- a fun car.

Welcome.

He's right - OZ lancers carry a 4G94 ( mine's an '03 OZ ) while the Evo's carry the 4G63. While you won't be able to get massive amounts of HP out of the 94 - forced induction ( i.e. supercharging or turbo ) will get you to almost 250 hp... which really is not THAT bad. Since you are a newb - just relax. Keep asking questions and search. ( searching before you post a question will really go over well with the older members on the board )

You can get well over 250whp, but you're not going to do it with any existing kits as they are sold. That's not to say you can't build your own or modify beyond the kit as it's sold.

It CAN become an evo.. Here's pictures of the 04 WRC Lancer. Evo engine and all, but built off of the Lancer platform, take note of the headlights, tails, and body design.

A little off topic but what does bump mean? I see it a lot and I think it means ditto to the post above but I am not sure.

bump is used to get your post back to the top. the evo engine and lancer engine are from totally different families. evo is 4g6x, lancer 4g9x. the lancer block is the same as the mirage one, 4g93, just bored out to 2.0l

The dealer I bought my Lancer from felt like an idiot, because I knew more about the car he was selling than he did. Don't take anything a dealer says as fact, they usually don't know much more than the 5 key features of the car and what size engine(s) are available. I knew before I bought a Lancer that it was as far from an Evo as a Neon is to a Viper, but I still wanted it... something as economical as a Civic that wasn't... well... a Civic!!!

99% of cars salesman are idiots and dont know **** about the car they are selling, all they have to know is how to B.S. an unknowledgeable consumer enough to buy the car from them. So do your research people , shop smart and know what you want.,
You should hear what some of these salesman say about the cars, its unbelievable what they come up with out of their own ignorance.

Exactly!!!!! When i was in the market for a car ...i wanted something along the lines of a civic but NO CIVIC...they are sooo common it makes me sick to my stomach. i was looking into sentra se-r's for a while but immediatly fell in love with my black 04 oz rally. But needless to say the guy didn't know **** about the car. ( little did i ..as i wasn't researching it at the time but merely researching the se-r) but... THe only thing he could tell me was all the features posted up on the window. I was looking at him like. DUH idiot....i already read that. Then i asked them if it was the same engine as the lancer cause they're both 2 Liters..and he said yeah....i had no idea the block is completely different ( although i wasn't lookin into making it into an evo anyway) but ..if ound this site and found out the truth !!!! My engine is completely different than an evo...but you guys know ur ****...i like readin all the posts. But whenever i look at the se-r's on the street...i'm glad i bought the lancer a little but....fudge it

ok, I worked at a dealership. What the salesmen do is just read a special little book about the cars they sell. Its like a little bit more complicated owners manual. The salesmen that suck and don't know anything just can't read well.

I'm surprised mine knew how to turn the wipers on. And he spent 10 minutes trying to turn on the fog lamps (there are no fog lamps). Also, when I was test driving a Focus, the dealer couldn't figure out how to get it into reverse. I figured it out because it was like an old Volvo I drove once (have to pull on this thing under the knob then shift into first).
