A friend gave me the latest issue of the biggest German car magazine "Auto Motor und Sport". They test the Evo 7 and the Subaru WRX STI there. This is what they had to say about the Evo:
"First gear is selected, the dash indicates 6000 rpms, the engine is screaming and the body vibrates. Our test chef Otto Hofmayer sidesteps the clutch. Full throttle. A violent choc goes through the car. The low profile tyres bite the tarmac. The driver and his passenger feel like a Sumo is pressing them into the seats. 7500 rpms. Gear change. Second gear goes in with a loud metallic noise. The Motegi circuit stands just fly by on both sides. 3rd gear, 4th, 5th. Let go.
Our laptop indicates the following data: 0 - 100 kmh (62mph) 4.7 seconds, 0 - 160 kmh 12.3 s. Sounds like a super sports car such as a Ferrari 550 Maranello. But it's only a Mitsubishi. But what a Mitsubishi!"
Performance
0-80 kmh 3.5s
0-100 kmh 4.7s
0-120 kmh 6.7s
0-140 kmh 8.5s
0-12.3 kmh 12.3s
Top Speed 253 kmh
Price in Japan: 2.998.000 Yen
Price in Germany: 43.562 EUR (available February 2002)
The also measured the STI with 280 bhp
0-100 5.3s
0-160 13.1s
Top Speed 238
They say "We doubt that the STI has 280 bhp because the acceleration is so much less vehement. The top speed is also much lower".

As Michael stated they tested the Jap versions. As the STI is white it also looks like it was a Typ R so the result for the STI would be even worse.
Maybe some people should see the light and accept that the STI doesn't play in the same league as the EVO.
Cheers
Mike

Yes the Subaru was a 280 bhp version. It said there: "We doubt that the STI has 280 bhp because the acceleration is so much less vehement. The top speed is also much lower". That is because the STI was supposed to have 280 instead of the European 265 bhp.

why not do the grocery shopping with the STi and the tarmac and track runs with evo. at least your mileage will be low?
