hydrolocked... again!!

yesterday while driving home in the rain... i once again ran across a small puddle that sent my baby into a hydrolock state again!

Being that this was teh 2nd time, i pretty much knew what to do... took the car out of gear and just slammed on the gas as i moved off the road. I kept holding down the gas and you can see the engine trying to rev up but it just keeps bogging... it bogs still it finally just stalls... then turn the car on again.. and repeat.. i basically just flushed all the water out of my car....

anyone else have experience with hyrdolocking?

I'm running aem cai right now. I just took off the 2nd section and ran the filter from the first arm. It fits and i gained some low end but high end is crap!

Don't they make a valve or something that automatically discharges water it sucks up? fits right on the CAI?

i just looked it up. its for the AEM CAI but they dont have one for the lancer...only the eclipse. That sucks I'm extremely scared that I will do that and **** my engine up.

I work with this guy who has an absolutely amazing Integra GSR. He had put so much work into the car it looked beautiful. It's been sitting in his driveway for two years because he had the AEM V2 intake and you cant put the bypass valve on that. He hydrolocked his engine and busted a rod. He cant afford to buy a new engine (the damage is that bad) because he is still paying for the car...

If i can make it fit ill probably just run the filter on the upper arm untill winter is over.

I hydrolocked my eclipse. When it happened I bent the connecting rods. Check your engine oil / remove your plugs and bump the starter to clear the water from the cylinders. If your engine oil looks like milk put the stock intake back on and call your insurance co (goes against comprehensive). Had to put a new shortblock in my eclipse (without car for 5 weeks). When I got it back fromt the shop I traded it in on a IX MR. That's my hydrolock story.

advice.. remove the intake, go shortram, or buy the bypass valve for the eclipse and retrofit it to your CAI if your engine isnt toast already.

I'm fairly certain that there is indeed a bypass valve that fits our cars, it just might not be model specific.

That sucks, no pun intended. Pull the spark plugs out and turn over the engine. That should get the water out. Then hope for the best.

sorry to hear that man...hydrolock sucks...especially the 2nd time around. didn't you learn the first time not to submerge or douse the CAI in water?

You can fit the bypass valve on anything, just measure the inner diameter of your tubing. It's not car specific, it's size specific. You can put the AEM bypass valve on Injen CAI with no modding to the tubes from what I've heard but most of hte time you have to get your tube cut. Worth the 50 bucks to stop ur engine from getting hydrolocked in my opinion.

Just FYI, bypass valves on intakes don't expel water. They create a pressure drop that makes it far less likely to suck up water. You know how hard it is to drink from a straw with a hole in it? Same principle.

You said that you ran across a small puddle. I thought the intake had to be partially submerged to suck up water. Good luck man.
