So, really, is the EVO 7 evolution or de-evolution?

Longer wheelbase, based on "the Mitsubishi Cedia family sedan rather than on the Lancer series", "performance figures are worse than they were in the previous version."

"Of course this new world order leads to a compromise in performance that brings the Evolution VII closer, in performance terms, to BMW and Audi cars than to its predecessors."

Pretty damning stuff.

I may have told this to so many people who had doubts about the new Evo VII.. so here I go again.. "Drive one... or just ride in the back seat of a real spec Evo VII... and see for yourself.. " You can fall in love with an Evo VI at first sight.. but not with the VII... you'll L..E..A..R..N to love a Evo VII..

It might not be the fastest Rally car anymore... but.. if I were you I'd think twice about trying to pass a stock VII with a BMW or an Audi!!!

Didn't someone say (very correctly indeed) "Those who know Evos Can't Explain.. Those who don't Can't understand"??

Well said, Diyath.

A few pints from this.

1 The longer wheelbase was chosen by Mitsubishi to improve handling, in particular for the WRC car. The Grp a 6 had moved the wheels as far apart as possible already and they had problems with fouling arches! On a road car the 7 handles better than the 6 for what IMO because of the ACD and a better AYC management and better wheelbase.

2 How many times do people need to be told that what this is about isn't straight line figures. It is about car dynamics - the handling etc.Only the BMW M3 will stand any chance of staying with a 7, even if it is only a small chance and that costs 30% more!

3 There has always been a belief that the 6's that were tested were "tweaked" to improve the results. 40 kgs (88lbs) of extra weight, the same BHP and a slight rise in tourque does not equal a car that is much slower. In fact, with me weighing 140 lbs the 6's advantage can almost totally go if it is driven by a large person!

4 People judge the cars on the looks. Wrong thing to do. The 7 might look tamer, might be more refined inside, but it is not watered down in performance terms.

I HATE JOURNALISTS :soapbox:

Claudius, surprised to hear YOU talking up the VII. I thought you pretty much hated it.

And what's the deal with "French Blue"? Is that the bright blue I've seen that sorta looks like Subaru's World Rally Blue?

Although I'm on the side of the 7 being a "devolution", I also have to say that it was very well said by diyath.

i think the Evo7 is truly an evolution for Mitsubishi. if you notice alot of car companies are moving toward that "luxury/high class" racer look. perfect example is Subaru. the new WRX is ALOT less aggressive compared to the old chassis. same w/ the Evos. who could forget the complete and utter indtimidating look of the Evo4 or 5. and since they wanna move this car more to the mainstream they want it appeal to older car buyers who want to stay away from the aggressive "boy racer" look. anyway the performance is what matters most.
