Thumbs up Don't Ask, Don't Get !

Ok, my '03 ES's(38,500kms) warranty is about to expire and I took it in to my dealer for a oil change and summer tire change and the service manager asks me "any problems ?" I said yer just the auto tranny flares up a bit and over revs sometimes. He goes ok, we have a technical bulletin to replace all of the temperature and vent controls to solve the sticky control problem once and for all (they replaced the vent control 5 months ago before the winter) which is a 4-5 hour job and at the same time we will take steps to determine the problem with the tranny and if need be you will get a new tranny through Mitsu Canada. He goes this is good for us because it creates work for the dealer and benefits you the customer. They gave me a rental for the duration.

Any of you have dealers with this kind of service ?

I received HORRIBLE service. Then I contacted MOA and complained. Once they called my dealership, I started getting treated GREAT.

I've always had pretty good service. Now I've moved to a different state and need to take the car in for the vent control thing. Is that covered under warranty? Hopefully my new dealership is as helpful.

ive always gotten ****ty service from where i lived. the dealer i bought from closed down (so now i cant get free oil changes anymore from them), and the dealer by where im going to school i get great service from the main service department guy. But NEVER have I gotten rental car. Does anyone else ever get a rental? They always say well we need to keep it overnight so do you have a ride? If not they offer someone to drive me home.

Havent had many problems with the car but have had good experiences with my dealership so far. They even fixed my window tint TWICE because it got scratched from inside the door after my warranty had run out.

lucky, I got my 04 lancer in December 0f 03 and it was the first dealership within 200 miles of where i lived that had 1 and they didnt even tint the windows. Went back a month later for an oil change and they had a couple more all with tinted windows.

I got good service from the dealer in waterville.. and they gave me a rental while they replaced the transmission because some dealer in Mass. Left a piece of axel in it. All of this was under warrenty and no cost to me.

I have had no problems with my lancer otherwise (other than what i've messed up myself haha)

Ok, I got my ride back and this is what they did, they replaced in the tranny with a new "dampening kit", they showed me what it consisted of. It consists basically half of the tranny casing, bearing and some gears and a steel plate that is suppose to be the cause of the problem. The service manager said he has seen Lancers replace 2-3 times for the same problem, but supposely the new kit will fix the problem. By doing this they also replace all the tranny fluid so there is no need for me to flush the tranny as scheduled maintenance at 48,800kms. The total cost if I were to pay would be 9.3 hours of labour at $72/hr and $900 in parts which would have come out to $1500cad +tax

The car now drives much more smoother and has alot more power, I believe I will save more gas in the long run also.

This seems to be a common problem with the auto tranny, so have it done before your warranty runs out, also as of 1 April 2006, Mitsu of America and Canada will no longer reimburse dealers for car rentals. I had to phone MOC in front of the dealer to complain to MOC for not paying for my rental because I was 2 days late after their policy change. The cost of the rental was only $15cad, so I let it go since they replace over $1500+ in parts and labour.

So is this like a recall, I mean should I call my dealer and inquire about it. that is pretty significant repair!
