I was quoted for $300 For the belt with labor. With the belt and Water pump it is going to be $500. I have 71,000 and I need it done. I have intentions on getting both done at the same time. When I get some extra money and pay off some things first...

belt-$61.47
tensioner w/ spring- $43.67
water pump- $107.78
total= $212.93 plus tax for parts

my book gives 3hrs to do the timing belt, 1/2hr to put in the tensioner, and 1/2hr to put in the water pump, so 4hrs total at your shops going rate.

all of these prices are our in my MOTOR crash book from decemper of 2003, so the prices may have changed since then, but this is the only book i have at home.

oh yea, dont forget coolent too

That's actually not too bad. Besides, are you sure you want a discount parts store timing belt?

here is what they don't tell you about the labor they charge you for the pulley.....the pulley MUST come off in order to do the timing belt...if they charge you a penny more than the cost of a timing belt you are getting ripped off.

Quick question. What if you don't hit 60k miles in say about 8 years. When would I need to change the timing belt?

Depends. Look at the belt, see how it's aging. Is it looking ragged or making noise? Just want to feel safe? Then do it. If it looks fine, leave it alone.
