I was just looking around the Actual EVO threads and found this. The guy who's running the show on this told me personally that the Lancer community was so enthusiastic as the Evo crowd were. This works for our car, may be a bit pricey but it sure is a nice kit. check it out..

wouldnt it be easier to make your own? that just seems like entirely too much money for a piece of plastic with some knobs in it. its shouldnt be too hard to mold it and then just transplant your stock knobs over to it. maybe theres more to this than i thought, though.

agreed, but im no n00b when it comes to this stuff. i didnt clarify what i was talking about molding it out of. im talking polyurethane. it yields VERY precise results, it all just depends on your skill at working with mold making and poly finishing. as far as getting the knobs and stuff to fit, if you took the knobs and controls out and used them as armatures during the molding process, you would get extremely tight tolerances and maybe have to do only the slightest bit of dremelling to make it look nice, poly also takes paint VERY well and since the its a very accurate media, you can even use a piece of your stock interior to replicate the texture of your dash or any other texture for that matter, up to and including reptile scales. man, im getting all hot just thinking about it. lol
after seeing this, i think i am going to look into it. it very well may not be feasible pricewise, but thats just something i will have to see. its been a while since i bought some urethane mix, so i dont know what the prices are like right now. ill holler back when i find out what it will take and whether its worth it for just a few runs. if it works, i may just be giving the others a run for their money. *dreams about owning an aftermarket MFG company*

well. im busy looking to see the difference in all the year model interiors, i went back to the original thread in the the evo section and i see why they are charging that much. they are going for mass production as any vendor would which means they have to recoup the cost of tooling and R&D. plus they have to make their operationg costs plus a profit margin. if someone were to do this homebrew on a low scale for the community here it could rival their quality. i imagine theirs is injection molded polypropylene. a small, low output injection molder is about $30k and requires training and a machine shop to manufacture die molds. i used to work for Bazooka speakers and thats what we had. the material cost was extremely low, but the operating costs (electricity) and the paycheck of our machinist was outrageous.

well the guy who is working on those expensive interior upgrades pretty much did it himself. If you go to the thread it'll link you to the original thread that started it all and there he shows his original setup before he customized it. Then he started to have it mass produced and obtain all those EVO own3rs for a group buy. It's too expensive correct. But it brings about 80% of everything you need for a successful install. I believe they tell you where to get the rest of the stuff, so in MIO it's not worth it. I just wanted to share the information for anyone who cares.
We're better off getting the radio relocation kit and buying the center panel from draftdesigns and putting the gauges where the radio used to be. All in all, it'll be less than half of that kit alone.
am i right or wrong?
