Need some car advice

Right now I'm torn, should I keep my car or save up and trade it in? If I was going to trade it in I'd be looking at something along the lines of a 2006+ civic si, cobalt SS, SRT-4, etc., at a stretch maybe a WRX. The major problem with this route is that I'm male, so insurance will be crazy. Currently its 3000$ a year for full coverage, this is down from 6000$ when I first started driving. I can expect it to stay this way until I'm 25. With all the new upgrades available (RRM's new cam, WORKS reflash, etc.) I'm having a serious problem deciding what to do.

insurance alone is why im still in the lancer.

it came down to a new car and higher insurance, with no mods at all or very little

to

my lancer, low insurance *same boat as you* 3 grand ful coverage, and tons of mods.
my tip to you

do what makes you happy! do u like working on cars? do u ike ur lancer? if so then keep it, if not buy your civic.

I love my lancer, I still get a smile on my face driving it. There are times when I want to put a bullet into it, like when rusted bolts snap or the engine blows or the dash makes random noises, but at the end of the day I'm still glad I have it.

same here. though my engines yet to blow. i remember ur IM story lmao. my goodness, do u not have HCP? if u cammed it with tuning with the right mods you would be a pretty fast NA lancer. to me its not about being faster than everyone else but rather what makes me happy. and my peppy bastard of a car satisfies me. and the handling is also a turn on.

how ld are you amby 21? 22? if that if i remember.

wait till ur 25 and buy a nice ride. im sure ur income bracket will likely be different by then anyways. and a civic may be a tad under your fanancial freedom at that point.

I have high compresion pistons and my block is bored. I have every bolt on possible, my only options right now are turbo, cams, and tuning. I'm only 20 right now, graduate in a year, and by the time I'm 25 I'll hopefully be midway through my PhD, but its also bio so my income won't exactly be outstanding.

I have a front engine mount that still needs to go in, I have a rear strut bar coming, and evo seats that should be here any day now. Once I make up my mind I'll see about doing other things, maybe some exterior things, more suspension bits, and of course more power.

I'm in the same boat as you. 20 and thinking about seriously modding my lancer or going for a new car. I think I'm going to hang onto it until I'm out of law school.

I would shy away from the cobalt ss and the srt4. you will be a lot happier waiting for a while and getting awd or something that looks a lot better than a neon. People I have talked to who have the cobalt really aren't impressed, and I think going with a turbo will be more fun than the supercharger. The 2008 ralliart is going to be turbo and possibly awd. The next gen tiburon may also be rwd turbo. Also, the wrx is going to go coupe in a few years, which could be interesting.

It's totally up to you though. If you are really serious about your next car hold off and try to save your money up. Personally I may keep the lancer for a long time and build a 60's shelby cobra (the american version of the British AC car) with one of those pre-made kits over the course of a few years. Good luck man

get the wrx man. 227 for the older ones and the ne wones have 243? and awd.

thats with a restrictibe exhaust too. add an 3' exhaust and thats about 10-20 hp for you could get an 2006 wrx and have about 250hp. and awd. not to mention the suspension is hands down better than a natural economy car.

biggest reason to get an wrx is the rather away from stock your car is the more problems it will have. i know a guy with a STI thats 640hp and he has to get an oil change every 600 miles. weight out your options to extensive research.

Yeah a wrx would be one hell of a stretch. Up here they cost ~35k$ and insurance would just ram my *** like nothing else. If I pay 3000$ on a 120 hp lancer, I can't imagine what I'd pay on a 230hp, AWD, sports sedan.

^^^I discovered something amazing when I asked my insurance co about how much it'd be to insure a '05 Legacy GT (turbo). My rate would actually go down; saying the upgrade to a larger mid-sized car caused the savings. If you're wanting to truely mod a car, we all have to admit...there are many more better choices out there than our Lancers to start with.

BTW, I was going to get the above mentioned car for <$20k w/ 9k miles.

mtags24 nailed it man. theres gonna be a lot of great cars comin out in the near future.
all the cars you mention are great and we'd all probally preffer them but you r insurance is insane. i pay 900 a year and ***** about it. when i pay off my lancer i'm gonna keep it and us it as a winter car. then get some crazy new plaform to build.

i'm in the same boat as you amby ( only i'm 35 )

i love my OZ too but sometimes i feel like screaming "why can't you go faster, you stupid car??!!"

I got promoted last month and i was hard up for an evo, but i've come to the decision that i'll use the extra money to pay bills / save up for DP so i can get a nice IX next year. it really sucks but i know it's the right thing to do.

As far as your car - i would keep it. I drove a cobalt two months ago and i was really dissappointed. I made a thread about it too. I would personally go with the wrx or the si ( even though i'm not a honda person ) if i wanted to go that new car route.

........... and what the hell is that about RRM's new cam ?????
