Question Need Positive wire

Ok. All my guages are hooked up. I need power/ground now. I can't figure out how to remove center console for lighter power, and I don't know which wire on the radio harness is positive and negative. Can anyone help? Thanks! I tried searching under radio harness, and mostly found head unit installs, where people are just matching up the wires, nothing that told me which ones were positive and negative on the radio harness! Thanks! I need to get this car back up and running!

easy man.. get a power tester and check the wires. It should tell you which is constant 12v power or Ignition power.

no matter. I got the center console off, and tapped into the cigarette liter. . . I hooked everything up the way I thought was correct I wasn't positive about two wires off the pyrometer sending unit, so I had those temporarily twisted to check. I turned the key to on, all sounded normal (didn't look at gauges, ever). I started it up and holy crap. I really screwed up somewhere . . . It sounded like only one cylinder was firing - how that would happen, I have to frickin' idea. I'm an *** for thinking I could install a couple simple gauges myself . I just had it towed to my mechanic - hopefully he likes to mess around with wiring. I really hope I haven't a lot of expensive damage.

U never tie any wires together unless you're 100 positive what each one are.

what EGT gauge are your trying to install? it's usually the sender tapped on the header. The from there it sends it to your gauge ( unless you have a Control Unit ). You should have, power, illumination, signal, and ground. That's about it.

more info.

Well, for my boost gauge, all I needed was power, ground, and signal wire. (in my case, the signal "wire" would be my vac line since its a analog gauge) The signal wire goes to the sending unit, the power went to that green/white striped wire on the dimmer control panel, and the ground goes to any part of the chassis, or another black ground wire. To light up your gauge, don't use just any 12v line, because you only want your gauge lit up when the headlights are on. Thats why the green/white striped wire on the dimmer switch is used.

Its not a difficult install. You probably shorted something or blew a fuse connecting the wrong wires together. It pays off to read the "How To" articles here on Evom or read your install manuals. Just about everything to do with the lancer's has already been covered here in the forums, including full wiring diagrams of the car so you know exactly which wire is which. (yes, even all the ECU wires and radio wires)

I am not trying to argue with you. What you sayis the truth! Apparently I had overestimated my skills here. 1 problem: I did connect to the green/white wire off dimmer switch, but I also connected the power wire to a 12v. source, maybe that's part of it.
