Radiator Hoses

Does anyone know the inside diameter for the upper and lower radiator hoses? i want to put in a water sender adapter to put temp sensors in but I dont know the size to get. I wish I knew what the name of the tool that does the measuring of this.

is "caliper" the tool name you're looking for? go to your local parts store, ask for a hose for the car, and ask for a caliper (the usually have one behind the counter for customers to use).

you could always just T off your wires coming from your original temperature sending unit, too. that would be easier and cheaper. all you'd have to do is run some wires.

Why do you want a temp sensor? There is one in your gauge next to the speedomoter.

yeah, but isnt that sensor placed after the water comes out of the block? maybe he wants to know what the water temp is before it gets circulated. the question then is, why? maybe im on the wrong track though.

Yeah, and as I recall, that gauge says C and H and nothing else.

Some of us like gauges with actual numbers. So if the water temp suddenly goes up 20-degrees, you can go "oh!" and turn the car off instead of waiting for the needle to shoot up near the H.

There's a reason that people who know about cars call the stock gauges "idiot gauges" - because they're designed for the average idiot customer who only needs to see "car is hot!" or a blinking light that means "something's wrong with the motor!"

you forgot the danger to manifold light. . .

i didnt think about actually wanting numbers. . . hmm i guess im an idiot. . .personally i dont need to see an exact temp to go, oh crap let me check to see why its running hot. . i know where the needle stays and if it goes above that i get suspicious. works just fine for me

like i said though i can understand someone maybe wanting precision. I think it woul be cool just to have it to be different. but then again, my dad has these guages in his 66 lemans so he would probably call me a copycat lol.

i think that i would rather do one better in this situation and get a full engine diagnostic setup going (not sure what im talking about even exists)

i dont know if anyone has ever flown or been in the cockpit of a modern aircraft, but its called an FMS (flight management system) and it constantly monitors all the stuff going on in the plane down to the temps in each turbine stage and pressures at like 20 different points throughtout the engines and cabin temps and air flow blah blah blah, and then displays it on a multi-function display that the pilots can just press a button and change what info they are looking at. if something like this exists, i think it would be the ****

You can get that. Might cost alot, but you can. Alot of that stuff hooks up through OBD-II

Kinda like what DSMers use. DSMlink.

Cool looking device and I can understand the need for great precision but at the same time splicing off the stock unit seems like a great idea unless you wanna monitor the temp at more than one place

Thanks to all

The reason for me wanting to change the location of the temp sensor and getting a gauge that gives exact temp readings is because I am going to be making alot of changes to the cooling system in my car and I need to see how it will affect it. i think I found a couple of ways to get more hp out of the 4g94 motor just by the way it cools it. I will keep all of you updated on what I do and the results. Also Im going to be installing A2 Designs Turbo Kit for my lancer.
