which is better, chocolate or vanilla?

its not really a question with a factual answer, it depends on lots of other factors.

SRI pros:
1. usually more inexpensive
2. less chance of water ingestion and hydrolock
3. often easier to install
SRI cons:
1. receive warmer, less dense air from the hot engine bay
2. have shorter pre-piping, if any at all, an more turbulent air (which is more difficult for the mas to read)
3. usually less hp gains than cai

CAI pros
1. ingests colder, more dense air
2. longer piping pre-mas reduces air turbulence
3. usually more hp gains than sri
CAI cons
1. may ingest water due to its low position (so why don't more people make grill mounted ram air cai designs? i think they should)
2. often more difficult to install
3. often more expensive

i have a SRI, and my CAI should be delivered today. i'll let you know which i like better, and why.

i also forgot, one of the reasons i want an intake beside the performance is the sound ,do they both make the same amount of grunt, cuz my brother has a 2003 civic si, and he put a aem CAI intake on it last week and i havnt drivin in it since but from the outside when he drives it by i dont hear much, pretty much the only time i have heard it is when he shuts the car off it like sux in, will the intake on the lancer do the same??

np. and don't worry so much about the snow. it would have to be over a foot deep, and you'd have to be trying to drive in it... a foot deep.

i live here in RAINY florida, and i'm not worried about the water, because i'm not dumb enough to drive through water over a few inches deep, and the filter itself is protected from splash damage on the bottom.

fyi, www.adventon.com is a good place to get injen or aem cai for a great price.

you suck up water into your engine your engine will be dead. you would have to actually submerge the entire cone filter in water to get water in the engine and it's possible you would stall before you get any water ingestion. They make water bypass valves that you can cut your CAI and install one of these valves BUT it is so incredibly unlikely that you would ingest any water unless you were submerged in water and then you would probably stall first.

looks like they aren't running the special right now, but you might want to call or email them.

On the cons, #1 is especially true. #2 is false, unless poorly designed product. #3 is a misnomer. To me, both are about the same until forced induction.

The main reason CAI get big #'s on dyno or in lab condition, they have a blower fan forcing cold air into the motor. In everyday driving situation, the last time that I have checked, no one drives around with a huge fan stuck to their grill.
