i'd honestly save about a grand then buy something... and in that time you save that grand you'll have quite posting and start searching on the forums to see whats available and what you would like to accomplish...

this is an easy one...
buy an aem cai from roadrace. they are only 210 shipped right now. best price anywhere, and the intake is amazing. search for the best intake thread. aem all the way.

you should instead invest your money wisely, may i suggest a savings account, some cds (no not the audio kind), and a diversified stock portfolio. in a few years you could turn that money into a good hunk of change and go to vegas and blow it all on hookers, drugs, and the blackjack table.

You could always buy me an exhaust and header
?!?
that is just an option
anyways.. I agree to search and save... you may want to get all of your information together before you start buying parts. The key is, to know what your upgrade upgrade path is. search and read, read, read! have fun and good luck. Let us know what you get and document for the rest of us!

Search and save. I wouldn't buy anything without extensive research if I were you.
EDIT: After reading that again it sounds really paranoid.
What I mean is: Have a plan for your car. Know what you want it to do definitively. After that figure out HOW (what you'll have to mod and what's available) THEN start comparing products and worrying about what to buy. This way there's no overlaps in purchases, and you could have the foresight to do things like (if you're buying a throttle body and intake) multiple installs at the same time to cut down on the time you spend under the hood or wherever.
EDIT AGAIN: Oh yeah...and congrats on the job.
