What is a Lancer really??..

i was thinking about how i see my Lancer.. i love my SPORT COMPACT SEDAN.. but i dont of it as anything even related to an evo.. i dont see how a Lancer would compete with an evo or suby at any show.. i see our Lancers are more of a competition for accord sedans and civic sedans.. i didnt buy my car to build an evo.. and all this is taking price ranges into consideration.. what do you guys think??.. seriously..

It is a base economy car, which like the civics and other base cars etc. has nearly unlimited potential to be modded terribly, and only a few avenues to be modded with performance and style in mind. I totally admire a person more who can turn heads tastefully with a lancer than an evo, sti, bmw etc

its not a horrilbe car....can get good power with Turbo kit and make it enjoyable to drive....but its not ment to compete to anything in the EVO/STi range....it juts wasnt made like that....its a different class is what im trying to say. the Corrollas, Civcs, Neons, Cobalt....etc that is it.

negative on corrollas and accords. think more along the lines of:

Elantra, Sentra, Civic, etc.

Like the famous saying goes " beauty is in the eye of the beholder". To me the style of the 02-03 Lancers is very nice and it has mass potential to make it look even more aggressive and spectacular. As far as performance is concerned its garbage and thats even with a turbo kit, we are so way below civics I think we line up with mopeds, the 4g94 motor = Fred Flintstones Feet. Handling wise the car is awesome and if put in a cornering situation the lancer (driven correctly) would win hands down cuz u can enter and exit corners at really high speeds. This is my 2 cents.

Don't bother with the 4g63... The swap will cost more than a new lancer... Which comes with engines that have way more potential.

i think a lancer is a good first car. yeah its pretty sweet looking but i also agree its not fast and is nowere close to the crazy performance mods that civics have.
i dont plan on puttin alot of money into it because its not a worthy cause... it has 57,000 miles and no matter how much money i put into it, it will never be that dream car that i want
thats my opinion =P

lancer is like a civic and a corolla, except that it is made by Mitsubishi and they named it "Lancer".

I see the Lancer as the car no one in the aftermarket world(our few companies aside) looks at. I know there has to be potential for greatness, but not enough people are looking for that in this car.

the thing about the lancer to the civic, witch is a strong topic of debate, is obviously that the civic has more aftermarket options. though, people i talk with are quick to say " with the same given amount of money you can make a civic faster than a lancer." this i disagree with. yes a civic can be faster, with a engine swap. lets compare apples to apples here.
lancer 4g94 to a civic with d series. that'd only be fair right. besides you wanna talk civic si then a ra is equal comparison.
the d series like the 4g94 is weak and only good for about 240 whp tuned. turbo of course. i've raced a turbo d series civic on a track and it honestly wasnt really all that much faster than my lil turtle. he only beat me by ABOUT 2 car lengths.
seriously i though it be a lot more. and he was surprised also, and went on to have his as$ handed to him the rest of the night.
in point, based on the two cars i say they're equal from my experience. i've raced non turbo d series and eat em up. i also say the lancer is the better lookin.
other cars in our class, that i happen to beat in the 8th mile at the track, are escort zx3, ford focus, neon, 1st 2nd gen eclipse, sunfire, protege, elantra, saturn sc2, jetta, golf, miata, sentra, thats all i can think of for now.

You have to compare the lancer (this generation and this engine) to cars in it's class, meaning proteges, older civics (not the new ones), neons, cavaliers, cobalts, sentras, etc.. I like my lancer a lot. It handles decently with only a sway bar and strut bar, powers not terrible for what the car is and most importantly, it's fun. My buddy has a mazda3 and while it's a nice car, I don't like it as much as mine simply because it lacks character and it lacks feeling.

well put.

thats why i picked the lancer. It has that nice rally feel and look to it. All other sedans are nice and what not, they also may be faster. But they just don't have that rough rally style that the lancer has.
which is partially why i wouldn't buy one of the new ones, serious like of rally grunt.
