I have a 4 month old Escort Passport 8500, and selling it for $200, originally bought it for $300, it has saved me atleast a dozen times.

I have to sell it along with my Evo and CL-S

I beg to differ on the V1 being the best.

I owned a V1 last year. It was pretty good, but not great by any means.

I heard about the Passport/Escort 8500, and me, being the electronice geek that I am, had to have it.

For digital hi/low power KA...Passport OWN3Z the V1. Here in CA, that is all that the CHP uses is Digital KA.

The only thing that sucks is that in CA, the CHP can write you a visual approximate speed ticket. So, even if you had the worlds best electronics warfare sweet, you couldn't detect them...

And just for credentials. I am a radar technician, and have studied microwave frequency(Radar) wave propagation for over 2 years. I do know what I am talking about. I am also a qualified AN SLQ Electronics Warfare suite operator/technician. There are few who know more about radar than I!

GET THE 8500, it is cheaper and better, and you will not be dissapointed!

You are so right... I really cannot understand why folks just tend to flock and go with the crowd without doing proper investigation. The V1 gets all kinds of great endorsements when in reality it's only a so so detector... I actually tried 2 of those, one was my friends and I borrowed it for a few days, then I ordered one direct and tried it for nearly a month before I sent it back.. The V1 is just too chatty, it reads falses all the time. After a while it just drives you nuts or you learn to ignore it! what good is that?
Based on the radar.com tests and other information I read, I bought a Passport 8500. It's a very good radar detector. It works when it's supposed to and beats the V1 on KA and K bands hands down. There are at least a dozen detectors out there which are at least as good as the V1 for a lot less money... It's hard to believe that so many are such firm belivers of V1 superiority, I guess hype and myth are more powerful than facts

To me, almost all the radar detectors are the same. Almost any radar detectors you get on the market gets further range than a cop radar gun. No matter what kind of detector you have, cops can always just turn on his radar when he suspects you speeding, and it'll be too late. For 200 dollars or under, get yourself a nice cobra on www.etronics.com but in all honesty, any radar detector will save your butt for some degree, just that some radar detectors can detect further than others, but why bother when they all detect further range the the cops?

I thought the V1 was the best on the market and I also read somewhere that you were guaranteed to never get a ticket and if you did, the company would pay for any fees you incurred as a result of it.
