A kit is a kit... There are sooooo many brands, that not everyone has an informed opinion about every one. You could try Ebay, they have kits starting near $100 for everything I think...

My take on "HID conversions"

Well, actually not MY take, but I've been convinced by these arguments.

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html

It's a good reading, but to make a long story short:
Regular halogen bulbs and Xenon HID Bulbs DO NOT burn the same, and do not produce light in the same way or pattern.
So, replacing Halogen Bulbs with Xenon HID bulbs will probably let you have more light, but it will not be focused correctly and also will caue glare (not good for you or the oncoming traffic).
Therefore, REPLACING HALOGEN BULBS WITH HID-XENON BULBS = NOT GOOD.

I'm still looking for alternatives, but it seems the best alternative is having the whole headlight (bulb and lens/housing) replaced by a whole new one that's properly designed for HID, OR modifying the one we have and installing a Xenon HID lamp inside the housing... or somewhere else on the car.

well, although i don't drive an evo, i did just do a hid conversion in my eclipse. got them from mydepots.com, they were cheap - $125 - but they work, don't produce a ridiculous amount of glare, and they beat the hell out of regular halogen bulbs. I say go for it man, you wont be sorry.

What's the best name brand for HID's? One that supplies more then the bulb, like the HID ballast and all other necessary hardware needed to make a perfect HID headlamp out of a projector housing?

I don't really think there's a "gold standard" for HID at the moment. It's really hit-or-miss...

I figure as long as you don't get a dual beam, you should be fine. Dual beam lights burn out the high beam bulb way too quickly, plus with HID you have to disable the DRL, or else you fry the main bulb in no time.
