I would not recommend anyone to buy the 2008 Lancer. The car I bought, 1st the A/C does not work the first day , they have to replace it. 2nd the upgraded stereo is SH*T because it doesnt even pick up the regular FM stations clearly! 3rd the lens on the fog lights just cracked. I mean what kind of sh*t car does Mitsubishi make now a days. I NOW KNOW WHY THEY OFFER SUCH A LONG WARRANTY PROGRAM, NOT BECUASE THEY WANT TO ATTRACT MORE CUSTOMERS, ITS BECUASE THEIR CARS ARE BADLY BUILT.
For the 5 days I had my car it was in the shop for 2 days. So you think about if you want to buy a Mitsubishi now. I bought my car from Vancouver Mitsubishi dealership, and the sales manager said it is "normal" for things like this to happen, it happens in 1 in 20 cars. I want to advise people to think clearly before even trying to buy this car

your complaining about the stereo not clearly picking up FM stations...buy XM if your so butt hurt over it, the other two i could logically see happening to just about anyone, ive heard this happen to tons of ppl with tons of different types of cars, i could see if the motor blew up on you yeah, but these are pretty weak, and they are free to fix, granted mitsu does not make the greatest cars what did you expect a mercedes?
i've got to say that if i just bought a brand new car i'd be pissed if everything didn't work right. this guy dropped over $20 grand ($21, 22k? for the GTS?) and he's had the car in the shop almost as much as he's had it at home... he has every right to be pissed.
i'm sure that once the issues get squared away the car is great--but a brand new car off the dealer's lot should NOT have problems like this. it shouldn't have problems, period. i'm not even following the 2008 lancers very closely and i already know right off the top of my head that there have been several people with issues with the stereo and the A/C.

You bought a car from the first batch of a first gen car, WTF do you expect? There's going to be little issues, and that's just what you listed, little issues. Also, your statement about the warranty is just stupid. The sole purpose of a warranty is to drive people towards the brand and nothing else.
yeah.... if the cars are junk they wouldnt give a great warranty. When cars go in for work under warranty and for free the dealerships lose money. Its just like was said, its a new platform. There will be bugs and recalls im sure.
there are going to be some bad apples and sorry to say my friend u just happen to pick that one. not to say that mine does not have some flaws. im pretty sure its like that with anything u buy. thats why there's a warranty.
You are the test bed whenever you purchase a new car. That car at the factory might have gotten 5 miles on a dyno / tester. After that it is loaded up on the ship and sent out. Seriously you can't expect a new car to be fully broke in and extensively tested. That is what you are for...plus it is a brand new from the ground up build on this cars. So we can all expect to find some stupid engineering issues.
Here is a perfectly good example of how this works. Let’s say you buy purchase a Mack Truck. Mack has released data that shows your truck will most likely break down multiple times in the first year and of course they will fix it as part of the warranty. They consider these break downs to be engineering fixes. After that first year to 18 months their research shows the truck will most likely run for years without any major failures. Of course this is subject to many things but on average it is true. Pretty much what this research is saying is...we build good trucks but we can't and won't drive them around for the first year to get all the kinks out...that is what the drivers are for, but once they are worked out our product will run for 50 more years if maintained correctly.
The same holds true with cars. Another example is my Toyota Celica. I bought it with 4000 miles on it. The guy only had the car for 6 months and traded it in. I had the car for two months and the check engine light kept coming on. 4 Dealerships worked on that car to try and figure it out. None could figure out why it would keep tripping no matter what they did. Toyota ended up sending out a brand new motor at no cost to me and replacing that one. The problem never happened again. Trust me I wish the lens on my fog lamp cracked....or my air conditioner broke.
Relax the new Lancer is going to have issues....they all do no matter what manufacture you get including Mercedes or BMW I could tell you stores about friends with those cars...wow. Either way if the dealer is being cool and fixing them they are doing exactly what they should. If you want to make a larger stink out of it call Mitsubishi customer advocacy and get them to get involved maybe you can have the car swapped out. But calling every Lancer a dud is a little over the top.
